MISHACH  WALKER


   Mishach Walker was born March 27, 1825 in Licking County Ohio the son of John and Elizabeth Walker.  His grandfather was the original Mishach Walker who fought in the Revolutionary War for 6 years and 10 months and was awarded 100 acres in Muskingum County as a land warrant and also received the Badge of Merit, known today s the purple heart.  Mishach and his brother Jesse moved to Meigs county and both were blacksmiths and mechanics.  Their younger brother John E. Walker was killed while a member of the 4th WV. Regiment, Company E. while posted at Ceredo, WV.  Mishach had a blacksmith shop in Syracuse both before and after the war but since he was kicked by a horse while serving with the WV 9th Reg. he always had back problems which later led to his very painful death. The Regiment was camped at the mouth of the Big Coal River when he was injured.  He was treated by several doctors, one being Doctor Thomas H. Barton, surgeon of the 4th WV and author of his own biography,"A Self Made Physician".
     Mishach married Sarah Chain on October 3, 1856 at the Antiquity Baptist Church in Antiquity, Ohio.  They had three children:  Eliza Jane Walker, Amanda Walker, George R. Walker. My sister and I are descendent of Eliza Jane  who married Charles Cook and had two children:  Maggie Cook and Walter Cook.  I am the grandchild of MaggieCook Anna Grace ( my mother) being her daughter.

Campaigns that Mishach fought in: Kanawah Valley Campaign, Winchester, VA, Cloyd's Mountain, Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Battle of the Cedars, Battle of Murfreesboro, Battle of Overall's Creek and finally mustered out at Raleigh, NC. June 28, 1865.

Mishach served 36 months in three separate Regiments:  WV. 9th Regiment, Company     E:       OVI 174th, Company F and the OVI 187th Company F.

Mishach died at his home is Syracuse, Ohio May 17, 1882.  He is buried in the Snowball Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, Ohio
