Design notes for Curt's Home Page |
So, HTML isn't such a big deal after all. When I was first setting up my webpage, I thought that using Microsoft Word to do the layout would be the quickest method. Unfortunately, subsequently modifying the page was a nightmare - Word adds lots of lines of code, and the alternative to using an HTML editor was downloading the page, editing it, and then reloading it; a very unreliable alternative.
Russil suggested that I consider learning HTML. So, after struggling through the Word created HTML document, I set out to rewrite the code for my home page. The result was a much cleaner, edit friendly, page. I also decided to move the page to Geocities.com with its 15M space allocation, which makes the 3M that my ISP grants with my DSL subscription look tiny. Since Yahoo has now effectively restricted your ability to share full resolution pictures through its Photo Albums (you can still order full resolution prints through Yahoo), full resolution pictures can be shared via this website. One of the principle reasons for setting up this site is so that I don't have to inconvenience people with large email attachments when I want to share pictures with them. April 5, 2002 |
Helpful Hints on Webpage Design:
Use thumbnails (200x150) instead of Height and Width commands to reduce download time - the entire picture still has to be downloaded - which can very quickly cuase your site to exceed its bandwidth allocation. Additional storage (3Mb) for photos at home.pacbell.net/wvong |
