Baseball. More than any other sport, it ties together generations and families and provides wonderful memories. Fathers and grandfathers recounting stories of Babe Ruth, Bobby Thompson's Shot Heard Round the World, and Mookie Wilson's ground ball. (You know the one.) A father taking his children to their first games (as in the picture to the left), who years later takes his children to their first games. Boyfriend and girlfriend, later husband and wife, going to their first game together while in college, then coming home and pulling an all-nighter to complete his term paper. (He wrote, she typed.) A father teaching his toddlers to throw a ball and swing a bat. Children collecting baseball cards. Children making up games that can be played in a backyard. (Invisible runners on first and second....Yuh huh, that was a single - that side of the bush is fair!) And then, there are the ballparks... |
