One of the 3 ships that Captain Christopher Newport commanded, across the Atlantic, up the now James River to start the settlement of Jamestown.

The other 2 ships were the Godspeed and Discovery

Typical clay and straw wall construction

 

The roofs were made of thick bundles of straw that were layered upon each other. The thickness of the roofs could go up as much as 12" thick.
