Saturday came and most of us had arranged to meet in Goole at midday. After some frantic ringing round Saturday morning to locate an oil drain plug for my TV, we (Mark Grey, Nicola and Craig) got off about 11:45am. Just before leaving we had a phone call from Linda to say Grahams throttle cable had snapped at the end of their drive so they would be delayed 15 minutes or so.
About 12:15pm at Goole Ju and Zak turned up, Ju sporting her new Dr Martins livery on her GP. Fifteen minutes later everyone else arrived, Mel, Graham, Linda, Phil, Julie and Martin in his series 3 escort. We quickly changed my oil drain plug and off we went. The pace was steady largely down to me running in my TV, so 50 it was, just like a procession of ducklings !!
Quite amazingly, with no problems we arrived in Bridlington about 2:00pm, and checked in to the hotel. There, we met Chris, Michelle, Bri, Mike, Dowse and his better half and Jo and Kev.
We had a coffee and came down to find everyone except Mel had gone into town on the piss. So we went over the road to see what the Spa had to offer. The place was heaving loads of stalls, custom scooters a café and a bar, everything under one roof. The quality of the scooters was good as usual and the stalls took us a while to get round, the usual stopping off to talk to folk some not seen for a while including my old school buddy Andy Ingram. We ran into Mossy who was helping out with security, made arrangements to see him later, but, alas never saw him again all weekend, probably ended up in a gutter….
The show ended about 6:00pm and by then the waves were hitting the back of the Spa, a reminder winter is on its way !!
Back at the Southcliffe and still no-one has re-appeared. A quick drink and we’re upstairs to scrub up before hitting the town.
Back downstairs and a few Hunters appear, Mel, Chris and Michelle and then Graham and Linda who seem to know whats going on, so, failing to gain the services of a taxi off we went out into the wild on foot. First stop of the night brings us to Karaoke night at The New Inn where we meet up with everybody else. The beer is in good flow and Nicola, sporting a Lambretta top, gets picked on by a punter on a Vespa mission – but, wait, there’s a hero in the wings! Yes, Punto Pete’s cravat saves the day and draws their attention elsewhere!! (Thanks Pete! –Nicola) They’re just jealous ‘cos they ain’t got one, mate!
Off down the road to the Ship Ahoy – 10,000 deep at the bar and as our crowd-surfing skills are not up to scratch these days, we abort mission and end up in the pool room of a hotel over the road. Did everyone see Grahams photo on the wall? Excellent and what a nice dickey!!! Always was a one for the women !!
After that we hit the Spa again for the night do, everyone seemed to make it apart from Mossy ?? The More Specials put on a good show, brought my early 80’s flooding back to me !! The live music over, personally I didn’t think the sounds were that good after that, but I never made it into the alternative room with Eddie Wainright on the decks.
Nicola and I left about 1:15pm but I understand some of us ended up propping up the hotel bar until about 3:00am BST.
Sunday morning, sore head, sick of walking across that landing for a leak, Nicola wouldn’t let me use the sink !! I said I would run the tap at the same time but no hope…! Downstairs for breakfast and Phil’s overdosing on black pudding, anymore and he’ll be going oink-oink.
We got off about 10:30am for a windy ride home, and that wasn’t the smelly remnants of the night before though it may have helped me along a bit !! The wind was head on so it was difficult to keep up a decent pace but everyone stuck together up to near Goole, where Mark’s LI decided to act up. Nic, Mel and I stopped to have a look, not finding anything we carried on and it got him home okay.
