Field and Staff Officers
John Moorman Clark, Born in 1832.  He was captured at Island No. 10, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, transferred to Johnson's Island. Sent to Vicksburg, Ms. for exchange, I Sept. 1862.  After his exchange on 30 Sept., Col. Clark resigned.  With his family he moved to Palestine, Tx., where he enlisted in 33rd Tx.  Cav. Serving with Gen. John Bankhead Magruder at Galveston, Tx., 1 Jan. 1863, and Gen. Richard Taylor, son of President Zachary Taylor, at Mansfield, La., 8 April 1864, Pleasant Hill, 9 April 1864, Yellow Lagoon, and was at the surrender in May of 1865. After the war he returned to Paris, Tn. and resumed his law practice. He was a high priest in the Mason's, active in local politics and church.  John M. Clark was later employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and was in charge of an indian reservation.  He died in Sydnor, Oklahoma in Nov. 1905. (Brother-in-law to Samuel J. Ray, A. C. John William Johnson, Lt. Col., Captured at Island No. 10, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, transferred to Johnson's Island, 26 April 1862.  He was exchanged 1 Sept. 1862 at Vicksburg, Ms. Received on the steamer, "John H. Done" His name appears on an inspection report of William Felix Brantley's Brigade, Johnson's Division, S. D. Lee's Corps, Army of the Tennessee, dated 18 Sept. 1864. Records show that he resigned 3 Oct. 1862, from the 46th Tn.  Inf.
               
James S. Brown, Major, This name is also filed as James L. Brown, Major.  Captured at Island No. 10, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, transferred to Johnson's Island.  Paroled 27 Aug. 1862, to report to Vicksburg, Ms. He was exchanged for Major F. M. Helveti of the 14th Ky. Cav., U. S. Army, (H. M. Helveti lst Ky. Cav. was found in the Kentucky Adjutant Generals Report, U. S. Army).  He
resigned 30 Sept. 1862 and was succeeded by Joseph D. Wilson.
               
Samuel H. Caldwell, Surgeon, Born 10 Dec. 1836 near Paris, Tn.  He was the son of Robert Caldwell and Sarah Dupree.  He married Mary R. Thompson, 24 Dec. 1860, daughter of William H. Thompson, a merchant.  The Caldwell's were Cumberland Presbyterians.  Dr. Caldwell entered the Confederate service, 24 Nov. 1861, in the 46th Tn. Inf.  Exchanged before the regiment was ordered to duty.  His successor was Dr. J. T. Mathis.  Dr. Caldwell's name appears on a list of medical officers at Camp Douglas, Ill. and was discharged from Camp Douglas, 25 June 1862.  He also served as a surgeon in the 21st Tn. Cav. (Wilson's Cav.). Paroled 16 May 1865, Columbus, Ms. Samuel H. Caldwell died in 1917 at Paris, Tn. Rennolds' History, page 195, Dr. S. H. Caldwell served as surgeon of the 20th Tn. Cav.  His name is also filed as S. H. Coldwell. (UDC # 50/371).

E. T.Taliaferro, Assistant Surgeon, age 39, He was sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. after the regiment was captured at Island No. 10. He was an acting physician at Camp Douglas while a prisoner. Discharged before the regiment was exchanged, 23 Sept. 1862. Ordered to duty 25 June 1862.  Dr. Taliaferro was from Va. and was a young physician engaged in his profession in Paris,Tn., where he and his family had located.  His wife's name was Jane.  In the 1850 Tn.  Census he was age 28.  E. T. Taliaferro also served as a
surgeon in the 26th Tn. Inf., Tennesseans in the Civil War, Vol. 2, page, 392. Rennolds' History, page 195, a Dr' Thomas J. Taliaferro is listed as serving in the regiment, being captured at Island No. 10 and resigning at the regiment’s reorganization.
          
Jonathan S. Dawson, Adjutant, Captured at Island No. 10, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, transferred to Johnson's Island, 24 April 1862. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Ms., I Sept. 1862, and elected colonel at the regiments reorganization.  After he was exchanged he was detailed to go back to Henry Co. Tn., gather the men that had escaped from Island No. 10, and bring them back to the regiment. He resigned 31 Dec. 1864.

Samuel J. Ray, Assistant Commissary of Substance, tendered his resignation and went home because his wife was very sick with the measles, March of 1862.  He was succeeded by Adam A. Hope.  Samuel Ray later served in the 20th Tn. Cav. (A. Q. M.), commissary. He was a brother-in-law to Col. John M. Clark.
