When the regiment was captured at Island No. 10, Company C was detailed to guard the Mississippi and Ohio Railroad bridge over the Obion River, and escaped capture. It was temporarily assigned as 2nd Co. "L" of the 5th Tn. Inf. until it was ordered back to the 46th Tn. Inf., at its reorganization, 30 Sept. 1862. This company took part in all of the 5th Tennessee's fighting during this period. Company officers at the regiments organization, 29 Nov. 1861 are as follows: John W. Harris, Captain, age 33, His name appears on a list of Co. "L" 5th Tn. Inf. Wounded at Perryville, Ky. 8 Oct. 1862. He was discharged because of his wound, and carried the effects of his wound for the rest of his life. In Rennolds' History, page, 202, he was wounded and captured at Perryville.(Thigh bone broken). William S. Frier, 3rd Lt., This soldier is listed in Rennolds' History, page 202, as resigning April 1862. S.W. Cochran/Samuel Cochran, lst Sgt., age 33, He was promoted to captain 25 Sept. 1863. His name also appears on a list of Co."L" of the 5th Tn. Inf. In Rennolds' History, page 202, he was elected 3rd Lt. April 1862, promoted to 2nd Lt. Sept. 1862, and was elected captain at the regiments reorganization, wounded at Atlanta. (Tn. Confederate Pension # 12763, living in Henry Co., Tn.). W. M. Palmer, J. H., 5th Sgt., age 35, His name also appears in Co. "L" of the 5th Tn. Inf. He was born 29 Dec. 1835 in Carroll Co. Tn. Married 20 Aug. 1860 in Henry Co., Tn. to Martha Jane Winsett. He surrendered at Greensboro, N. C., 1 May 1865. After the war he was a member of the James G. Pirtle U. C. V. Camp #990 in Fulton, Ky. until his death 11 April 1915. His wife received a Confederate Widows Pension from Ky., # 3617, (18 Aug. 1916). They are both buried in the Boaz Chapel Cemetery.(Jonathan Howard Palmer), Palmer, W. Robertson, born in Wilson Co., Tn., and Lucinda Hix, daughter of Jak Hix and Elizabeth Hix of Benton Co., Tn. Mr. J. P. Robertson drilled his boys in military drill before the war. Robertson, Jacob, age 19, His name also appears in Co. "Ll' of the 5th Tn. Inf. He served through the war and was present at the surrender. Smithson, J. W., age 32, His name also appears in Co. Inf. The military files show him as being sick in the hospital and dying in 1862. In Rennolds' History, page 203, he died at Corinth, Ms., May 1862. Grissom, H. W., age 22. Grissom, William, In Rennolds' History, page 203, this soldier is listed as serving through the war. Hall, A. J., Cpl., age 24, His name also appears in Co. L of the 5th Tn. Inf. Cpl. A John Hall was killed at Franklin, Tn. 30 Nov. 1864. He is buried in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery in Franklin, Tn., section 66, grave #230. In the McGavock Cemetery book, a Capt. J. S. Hall is listed as being buried in this plot, could be an error. The gravestone has the #230 and the initials A. J. H., proof of burial. Hall, J. C. Hall, J. M. age 35, Reported as deserting, 8 April 1862. Hall, John W., age 34, His name also appears as being in Co. L of the 5th Tn. Inf. Killed at Franklin, Tn. 30 Nov. 1864, could be buried with the unknown in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery, Franklin, Tn. His wife was Lucy A. Hall. She lived in Independence Co., Ark. in the 1890's, and received a Confederate Widows Pension from the State of Arkansas. She died in late 1902.
