Midsummer (Litha, Vestalia, Gathering Day)
At Midsummer the Goddess is heavy with pregnancy, as are the fields awaiting harvest. Even so the fertility rites still continue, just as a human baby can be miscarried or born blighted so could the crops for the year. Midsummer rituals focus on nuturing new life.
During Midsummer the sun is at its peak for the year, we celebrate the peak of his power and his approaching fatherhood. The sun being protective, many choose to make protective amulets at this time which are empowered during the Midsummer rituals. Since this is a time which glorifies the sun, fire plays a very prominent role in most Midsummer rituals, a huge balefire usually is at the center of any group celebrations.
