Chapter 33

The 4 girls walked into the clinic holding hands, forming a solid link of friendship that would never break. They were all feeling the pain and were in it together for the long run. They knew how much their friend was hurting and they were there to help ease it as much as they could. Molly checked in with the receptionist and went to sit down until her name was called. She tried to put AJ out of her mind but she couldn't. He had always been there for her and on the most important day he had not even called. Molly was beyond hurt and she knew that she would never, could never forgive AJ for what he had done.

"Molly, the doctor will see you now" The young, blonde receptionist smiled at Molly and as the girls followed her down the hall the silence permeated the air. "You can wait in the doctor's office." The receptionist opened the door to the huge office and showed them in. As the women settled in they looked around at the pictures and diplomas that covered the walls and tried to make small talk. They heard the door open and all braced themselves for the news that the doctor was about to deliver. Molly turned in her chair and was silent as she tried to comprehend. "Alex....Alex what are you doing here?" Molly threw herself into his arms and cried into his chest.

AJ smoothed down her hair and held her tight "Baby I have been on 4 planes and on standby for 36 hours trying to get here to you, didn't Nick tell you that I was trying to get here?"

Kim Ann groaned "No he did not, he told me that you were upset that you couldn't get a flight out. Shit, that boy would mess up the lord's prayer if he knew it"

Molly pawed at AJ, trying to get herself closer to AJ's warmth. "Baby I thought that you had forgotten about me"

"I would never let you down Chipper" AJ whispered.

"I told you he wouldn't let her down" Kim Ann said, tongue in chat.

AJ grinned briefly "Sure Kymmi, you were probably planning my evil torture"

"You know me too well" They all stopped talking when the specialist walked in, holding a thick file, his face a blank slate, not revealing anything.

"Molly..How are you feeling?" The specialist sat down and looked at Molly and her friends. His face focused on Molly "Molly the tests came back negative, we got all the cells. The chemotherapy worked and we are leaning towards diagnosing you as being in remission."

"Thank god" AJ fell to the ground on his knees in prayer.

Molly stared back at the specialist and as what he said sank in she started to cry and smile and reach for AJ "Alex, I am in remission...Alex" Molly threw her arms around AJ and the two held each other.

"Molly I do have some serious business to discuss with you. We are encouraged that the cancer is not evident but we are also afraid with the cancer history in your family that the cancer could reappear."

Molly's heart seemed to made of lead "I know what you are saying, you want me to have a masectomy."

"Yes, that is your only option to guarantee that the cancer will not reappear in your breasts" The doctor said solemnly.

AJ held her shaking hand "So what you are saying is that if Molly has a masectomy that the chances of cancer reoccuring are almost none."

"Chance of breast cancer will almost be nil, other cancers cannot be predicted. I think Molly, you need some time to think this over, why don't you take this weekend and then on Monday we can meet and discuss"

AJ and Molly looked at one another and knew that they were in for a long and difficult weekend.
