Chapter 48...The Reunion

(3 years later)

"You are such a good baby, mommy loves you" Jessi leaned over and picked up her newborn son out of his carseat.

"How's daddy's boy?" Howie kissed his son and then kissed his wife and his 3 year old daughter.

"Are you nervous?" Jessi asked.

"Extremely"

The boys had decided on a reunion tour, one last concert to bid farewell to their fans for good. They had planned it entirely over the phone and through emails as none of them lived in the same city.

Howie and Jessi stayed in Orlando. Caroline was now almost 4 and their newborn son Thomas was 2 months old. They had adopted him from a teenage girl who was raped and wanted to make sure that her son went to a wonderful and caring family. Howie and Jessi had never been happier, Howie ran his own real estate company and Jessi had just published her 4th book. The kids were healthy and happy. Their family was complete.

"Oh my god, there's Brian" Howie ran to hug his friend. Brian and Leighanne moved to Atlanta soon after their 4th child was born. Leighanne had regained her movie career and Brian was a very sucessful song writer. Their children were beautiful.

"Hi D, god it's been a long time" Brian hugged his friend tightly "Let me see these beautiful children"

Kim Ann and Kevin walked hand in hand into the venue, pausing to see the crowd of young and old standing outside, waiting to catch a glimpse of their idols. "Are you sorry you are giving this all up for good?" Kim Ann whispered as she watched the sadness take over her husband's face as he came to the realization that this would be the final time he would enter a venue as a performer, from that day on he would be a fan, a spectator.

Kevin looked at his wife, 8 months pregnant with their second child and he smiled "I have all the memories to get me through, it is time that we close this chapter of my life and concentrate on being a family. Kevin looked at their 9 children and smiled. Kim Ann and Kevin moved to Kentucky with their children, soon after the custody battle was finished. They had built a sprawling ranch on 20 acres of land and Kevin had become a horse breeder and trainer. Molly and Alex lived with them for 6 months of the year and 6 months with Nick and his wife in Tampa. Kim Ann and Kevin were married on New Year's Eve 2000 and had their first baby together 9 months later, much to the delight of Alex it was a baby boy, called Matthew, a compromise for Molly who had her heart set on Matty, the closest thing to Mathilda.

"Let's go my love" and the two of them ushered their brood into the venue.

Kim Ann and Jessi were hugging tightly when they saw Skylar and her husband Spencer walk in. They sqealed and ran over to hug their friend. "Skeelo, you look fabulous." and the three women hugged. They were the reason that the families were. It had all started with them.

Nick touched his wife's stomach and smiled "Are you sure you are ready to do this?"

"Nick stop worrying, I want to meet your friends, they probably won't remember me but I still can't wait to see them again" Nick and his wife walked into the venue.

Everyone was talking, crying and hugging when Nick walked in with his pregnant wife.

"Oh he didn't?" Kevin's mouth dropped as he recognized the woman who had caused such an uproar with the fans years before.

"Oh yes he did, we almost died when he called us and told us" Brian muttered.

"He married WILLA? I mean Mandy, I mean what the hell is she being called now?" Howie laughed.

The boys formed the prayer circle for the final time and said their prayer. Nick looked across and caught Kim Ann's eye. She looked beautiful, and happy. They had agreed to be friends for the twins and it had been working. He smiled at her and winked. She in turn smiled her famous wild smile, the one that had driven him crazy when they were together, and touched her heart; a subtle reminder that he would always hold a place in her heart.

All the wives and children sat on the stage, off to the side watching their husbands perform together for the last time. Kim Ann, Jessi and Skylar smiled brightly when they saw all of the hootchies, with their husbands and children in tow, sitting in the front row, holding their trademark signs and still screaming as loudly as they had years before. Kim Ann caught Crissy and Sarah's eyes and winked. Crissy was happily married to Brent and was expecting their first child. Sarah had met a wonderful man while on vacation with Kim Ann and Crissy in Cuba and they were getting married the following month.

The lights dimmed and the boys took their seats beside a full length screen. The music started and as Brian started to sing, a familiar raspy voice filled the arena and the man who was such a huge part of the boys sucess flashed on the screen. As the boys sang Show me The Meaning the screen flashed pictures of AJ, in the early years, all of them at their first concert, and as it went on it showed AJ and Molly, a group shot of them all at the Grammys, the night on the beach, the birth of the first backstreet baby, and as the song ended and the lights went dark the boys made their way backstage and came out holding the hand of the woman who had fought so hard to keep them together, who hadn't allowed them to fall apart when AJ and Molly died and the woman who was the driving force behind all of their happiness. Denise wiped the tears that were streaming down her face as she looked at the large congregation of family that sat on the stage. All of these people were here because of 5 boys, 5 boys who had followed their dreams, made millions of people happy and who had been together through girl problems, marriages, births and deaths. They had stuck together through it all. She took her place with the 4 boys and their family and she smiled as the photographer took their picture.

"Alex and Molly they are all here, all on stage, for the last time...for one last time as a Backstreet Family." Denise whispered to the heavens.
