~*~Chapter 18~*~

"You okay, Carly.?" Freddie asked me during a break. We were on the set and Kevin had decided to move the camera's and shoot from a different angle.

"Fine." I answered not looking in his eyes.

"Yeah, right." He laughed. "Carlon, you've been acting this way for three months. Don't tell me your fine."

"What way?" I asked, playing dumb.

"What way?" He restated. "Carlon, you mope around your dressing room. You only come out when you absolutely have to. I've called you eight times this week at Seth's, and each time he says 'she's not feeling too well right now'. I invited you to go shopping with me, and you said it wasn't your thing." Freddie stared at me blankly.

"I've just changed." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Just changed?" He raised his voice. "Carlon, you're freaking depressed. Get over it. He's been gone for three months." Freddie stressed.

"It's not just AJ. I miss...I miss Brian too."

"See, you are depressed. I wasn't even talking about AJ. I was talking about Brian." Freddie said.

"I know." I scoffed. I was just...I just..." I couldn't think of anything to say. "Shut up, Freddie."

"Okay, so I was talking about AJ, but...if you miss him so much, then call him." Freddie reached out and grabbed my hand.

"Freddie, I can't just call him. He's on tour. I lost my chance." Kevin approached us.

"Carlon, it's time to die." He told me.

"What?" I was shocked.

"The next scene. You die in it, remember?"

"Oh, yeah." I shook my head to rid of any other thoughts, so I could concentrate on my acting.

"I'll get it!" I called to Seth, as I ran into the foyer to answer the door.

"If it's Freddie, I'm in the den." Seth said back. I bounced to the door and opened it.

"Layla?" I was so surprised. I hadn't seen her in almost four months.

"Hey, girl." Layla reached out to give me a hug. I let her in and led her to the living room.

"How did you find the house?" I asked taking a seat on the couch.

"I called. Seth gave me the directions. Did he not tell you I was coming?" Just then Seth walked in.

"Carly, I meant to tell you...you're friend, um...Lind...Laur--"

"Layla?" I interupted him.

"That's it. She's coming."

"Oh, thanks, Seth." I smiled. He returned the smile before leaving the room. "That's Seth." I told Layla, both of us laughing.

"It's really nice here." Layla looked around the room.

"Yeah, too bad I'm only here for two more months."

"Then, you coming home?" She asked. I stood to my feet.

"Layla, this is my home." I walked to the fireplace and ran my fingers across the mantle.

"No, it's not." Layla bluntly said. "You know it's not."

" How can you say that?" I turned to face her. "I grew up here. You don't know what is, and what isn't my home."

"I know that you aren't happy here." She shot back.

"I am happy here. I'm just not happy. Me going back to Florida isn't going to bring me happiness. Where would I live anyway, Layla? Answer that."

"Where you've always lived."

"With AJ?" I semi laughed. "You think that if I just pack up everything and leave L.A. that my life will just be perfect?"

"Carlon, if you would stop and think for a second. You just packed up everything and left Florida...did that make everything perfect? No, it didn't. So, what do you have to lose?"

"Nothing, Layla. Because I've already lost it all." I nearly yelled.

"Fine, Carlon. Think what you will." Layla grabbed her purse and headed for the door. "I should have never listened to Brian. Coming here was a bad idea."

"Brian?" I followed her back to the foyer.

"Yeah, Brian. Your cousin. He belongs to that group of people that you don't want to have anything to do with. Remember? Fran, Angela, Danielle, Nick, Kevin, Howie, Brian...AJ." She stressed AJ's name. "When you work things out, give me a call." Layla opened the door and left. I turned and looked at the oscar and sighed.

"I screwed up again, Mom."
