It was 7:03 when the doorbell rang. Julie jumped up, grabbed her keys, and opened the door. "Hi Brian!" she said.
"Hi! You look nice!" he said.
"Well, it's a change from my uniform you've seen my in. You look good too." Actually, he looked better than good. He looked damn hot! He was wearing khaki cargo shorts with a blue and white plaid button up shirt that he wore buttoned over a white T- shirt, and his cologne smelled great.
"Thanks. You ready to go?" he asked.
"Yep. Just let me lock up." She turned on the porch light, locked the front door, and walked out with Brian to his car, which was a silver BMW. He opened the door for her, and then walked around to the driver's side, climbed in, and started the car.
As they drove, they chatted about themselves. Brian seemed really curious about her, and was asking her lots of questions about herself. "So, are you working just for the summer?" he asked.
"Yeah. I have to help pay for college, so I work to save money over the summer. With the money I save, and my scholarships, that covers my part of the tuition. My parents pay the rest, like room and board."
"Where do you go to college?" he asked.
"Florida State. I've only got one year left before I graduate!"
"Oh really, what's your major?" he asked, seeming genuinely interested.
"Child development. I'm hoping to be able to work with mentally disabled children once I'm done with school."
"Really? You've got to be a really caring person for that kind of job." he said.
Julie blushed a little, and said, "Well, my little sister has down's syndrome, so I've kind of grown up helping her develop skills. She's come a long way. She does lots on her own now."
"Wow. I used to do some volunteer work with handicap kids back in Kentucky when I was in high school. So, you're living with your parents over the summer?"
"Unfortunately, yes. They wouldn't let me get my own apartment. They get a little over protective sometimes. They even wanted me to come home from school for my 21st birthday, because they didn't want me to 'do anything I'd regret' as they put it. They were afraid I was going to go party every night, but I don't. It's not really my thing. I think it's much more fun to watch the drunk people as opposed to being the one that's drunk."
"That's an interesting point." he said, smiling at her ways of thinking.
"So, what about you?" she asked.
"Well," he began, sounding a little uncomfortable. "I'm not in school. I'm in a singing group with four other guys, so that keeps me pretty busy, but other than that, I'm just a normal guy." he told her about growing up in Kentucky, and his family. Then, he told her about his heart surgery that he had just over a year ago.
"I'm glad that turned out good." Julie said. By that time, they had
arrived at the
restaurant, and went inside to be seated.
