Kate sat down on the couch and AJ stood in front of her, preparing to talk. She looked at the clock hanging on the wall. "You've got two minutes starting now. Start talking."
AJ cleared his throat. "Kate, I'm really sorry about the whole thing. I shouldn't have lied to you. I embarrassed you and I upset you. I didn't mean to do that. I really want a relationship with you. I don't know what will happen- maybe it will become serious, maybe not but I'd at least like to try. You're special, Kate. You have something most girls don't have to offer. You're beautiful on the inside and the outside. I acted like a jerk and I'm exrtremely sorry. I hope that we can just move on and start all over. Yeah- I know, there aren't always second chances in life, but I think you and I could have one...."
"Time's up." Kate cut him off.
"Well?" he said, waiting for her response.
"I don't know, AJ. Why don't you try me again in a few days?"
"Because I won't accept that. I know you want to, Katie."
"Damn, boy! You don't get it, do you? You screwed up! And I'm supposed to just take you back like that?" she snapped her fingers.
"No, but I thought maybe it was worth a shot. I don't just roll over and give up that easily. Please Kate? Give me one more chance?" he begged.
Kate couldn't help it- she could tell he really was sorry and he was serious about starting over. Honesty like that in a man was something she truely appreciated. She sighed. "Alright. You've got your second chance. Tomorrow night, 6:30. Dinner and a movie. You pick me up here. Any questions?"
AJ smiled. "Nope. You won't be sorry Kate, I promise." He kissed her cheek and headed for the door. "Thank you, Kate."
"Yeah, not get out of here! I need my beauty rest. I've got a hot date tomorrow!"
"So, you wanna crash here tonight? It's getting pretty late." Julie offered.
"You don't mind?" Brian asked.
"No, have I ever?"
"Just thought I'd check. It's a good thing your couch is so comfy! I sleep on it almost more than I sleep in my own house!"
Julie cleared her throat. "Brian, I thought maybe tonight you could sleep in my room."
Brian looked surprised. "Are you sure? I mean, you don't have to."
"We're just sleeping, Brian. Nothing else! I just want to be close to you tonight. But if it's going to make you uncomfortable, you don't have to. It was just a suggestion..." Julie trailed off.
"No, I'd love to." he said, giving her a small kiss. They walked
into the
bedroom
and Julie changed into her pajamas and Brian stripped down to his
boxers and
they
climbed into bed. Julie snuggled up next to him and rested her head on
his
chest. Brian
wrapped his arms around her and they drifted off to sleep.
