Chapter 20

The party died down eventually leaving Julie and Brian with Nick, AJ, Kate, and Rochelle. "You guys mind giving me a hand cleaning up this mess?" Julie asked.

"I guess not." Kate said. They all chipped in and the place was clean in no time.

"Well, I'm gonna take off. I need to get up early tomorrow." Nick said.

"I'm right behind you, Nick." AJ said, getting up off the couch.

"I'll walk you guys out." Kate and Rochelle said at the same time. Everyone turned and looked at the two and chuckled.

Once they were all outside, Julie and Brian flopped down on the couch. "So, the girls are spending the night, huh?" Brian asked.

"Yup. We're going to be up all night talking about you!"

"Great! Now my ears are going to be burning all night long and I won't sleep either!" he joked.

"Oh, you'll be fine! You wanna do something tomorrow night?" she asked.

"Aren't you going out with AJ?" Brian asked quietly.

"Just in the afternoon. You're not upset about that, are you?" Julie asked carefully.

"No, I know I'm not the best shopping partner around. I think Nick and I are going to shoot some hoops or something."

"Ahh..quality male bonding time! Why don't you give me a call then and we can get together?"

"Ok. Sounds like a plan. I think I'm gonna head home though. Give you girls your giggly-gossip time." Brian said getting up. Julie gave him a big hug and a kiss.

"Thanks, Brian. I had fun tonight. Your friends are great."

"And from what I've seen, my friends seem to think your friends are great too!"

"Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still out there saying goodbye to each other!" Julie kidded.

Meanwhile, Kate walked with AJ out to his car and Rochelle went with Nick. Kate was leaning against the door of AJ's car and he had his arms wrapped around her waist as they talked. "So, can I call you?" he asked.

"You can do better than that! How about we go out tomorrow afternoon?" she asked.

"That sounds great!" he said.

"That's fine by me. What do you wanna do?" she asked, jumping for joy on the inside.

"I don't know. How about we start with lunch and then play it by ear?" he suggested.

"Ok. Why don't you pick me up at one?" Kate gave him directions to her house and her cell, pager, and house number.

"One it is. I'll talk to you tomorrow, Sweetie!" he said before leaning down and giving her a long, gentle kiss. She hugged him and then moved out of his way so that he could get in his car. She waved as he pulled out and drove away before sighing happily and walking back to Julie's apartment.

Nick and Rochelle were laying on the hood of his car looking up at the stars, not really saying much of anything. Rochelle looked over at Nick when she knew he wasn't looking and just stared at his gorgeous features. Even though it was dark, she could still see the sparkle of his bright blue eyes. Finally, she broke the silence. "Hey Nick?" she asked quietly. He turned his head and looked at her. Her breath caught in her throat and for a moment she forgot what she was going to say. "Can I call you sometime?" she asked, thankful that it was dark so that he couldn't see her blushing cheeks.

"I don't know, can you?" he teased.

"Nick! Come on, I'm being serious here."

"I know, I'm sorry. You're just so cute when you're nervous and I couldn't help but pick! Anyways, I would love it if you called me."

"Really? That's great! I mean, umm, I wasn't sure after...you know." she stammered.

"Rochelle, it's ok. Really. I understand that sometimes we have problems that are a little more than we can handle. Lord knows I've been there several times myself. I'd love it if we could get together again."

"Thanks for being so understanding, Nick. You don't find guys like that too often."

"Nah, we're out there, it's just a matter of finding us." Rochelle laughed and they climbed off his car. "Here's my number." he said, handing her a piece of paper. "It's my cell so you can call it anytime, granted I might not always answer it..."

"Ok, thanks Nick. How about I call you tomorrow and we'll talk some more?" she asked, shyly. Nick thought her shyness was too cute for words.

"Yeah, I'd like that." he said.

"Great! So I'll talk to you tomorrow then!" she said.

"Bye, Shelly!" he said, leaning down to give her a tight hug.

"Bye, Nick!" she said as he got into his car and drove off.
