The next day, Julie and Brian got up early and went over to her house to start packing. Julie's mother surprised her by driving up from Miami to help her. Brian packed up her books and her computer while she packed her clothes.
"Julie, what were you planning on using for furniture?" her mom asked.
"I don't know. Milk crates?" Julie said.
"Cute. Not too comfortable though. You didn't actually think we were going to send you to your own apartment without furniture, did you?"
"Umm, well I hadn't really thought about it to tell you the truth."
Brian laughed along with Julie's mom. "We've got that old couch and chair in the basement from Nana's house. They're still in pretty good shape considering they were almost brand new when she moved out and sent them to our basement. Your father and I thought you could take those and then we'd buy you a table and chairs. You can take your own bed and everything else you can just add on as you go."
"Thanks mom!"
"You're welcome, sweetie. We're having a truck pick up the furniture and take it over there this afternoon."
With the help of Brian, Julie's mom, and AJ's car, they had all of Julie's things moved in by 10:00 that night. Julie's mother had left earlier to go back to Miami and Julie had most of the unpacking done. Her mom had also supplied her with their old set of plates and pans and other kitchen wear. It wasn't the most attractive set but it worked.
Julie collapsed on her bed, exhausted. Brian came in and joined her.
"Moving is hard work!" Julie said.
"Tell me about it!"
"It's going to be weird sleeping here all by myself tonight."
"You want me to stay?" he asked.
"Nah. I'll be fine. You can stay a little longer, though if you want."
"No objections here!" he said. He leaned over to kiss her. She responded by pulling his lips back to hers and placing her hands on the sides of his face to deepen the kiss.
"Trying to get that gum back?" he asked.
"Yup." Julie smiled as he met her lips again. She sighed as he parted her lips and slid his tongue in, a feeling that was still new to her. He pulled her on top of him and caressed her back. She let out a slight moan as he kissed her neck. She knew things were about to go further than she was ready for but it felt so good that she had a hard time stopping it.
"Brian, I think we should stop." she said, breathless.
Brian sighed as he sat up. "You're right. Maybe I should get going."
"Do you think we should talk about this?" she asked, quietly and slowly as if afraid she had upset him.
Brian immediately sensed what she was thinking. "You didn't upset me Julie. We both have boundaries we need to respect with each other. We do need to talk about it but maybe we should do it tomorrow when we're thinking clearly and I've had my three cold showers!"
"You're such a goof! Are you coming over here?"
"Sure. I'll call you first, ok?"
"You're sure you're not mad?"
"Why do you keep asking me that?" he asked.
"Because so many guys get upset when a girl stops them like that. There are many guys out there that can't respect a girl's morals. Their relationships are based solely on sex. I guess I'm just used to being walked out on after I turn them down." Julie said, looking down at her hands.
"Hey, look at me." He said, tilting her head up with his fingers so he could see her face. "I'm not like those other guys, ok? I was brought up to be a southern gentleman!" he said with a slight laugh. Julie smiled. "It's not just about sex. It's not even about sex at all, I just like being with you. So we'll both get a good night's sleep and we'll talk about this some more tomorrow, ok?"
"Ok. I'm sorry Brian. I guess it's just a sensitive subject."
"I understand, it's ok I promise." He hugged her tightly and left for the night.
The next day, Brian called in the morning to ask if he could come over yet.
"Yeah, I just have to clean up a bit first."
"You just moved in yesterday!"
"I know! I don't know how I managed to make such a mess so quickly!" she laughed.
"Ok, I'll be over in about 20 minutes."
"See ya soon!"
Once Brian had arrived, they sat down at the kitchen table quietly for a few minutes.
"Ok, so let's get this over with!" she said.
"That's what I'm saying! Ok, so we both know we're not ready for a sexual relationship right now, correct?"
"Exactly."
"What we need to establish are some boundaries I guess." he said, looking as uncomfortable and embarrassed as Julie felt.
"Brian, I think I need to tell you something. I've never had sex before. I've been waiting until I was with the right person who isn't going to leave me anytime soon."
"I think that's very commendable in this world." Brian smiled at her.
"What I'm trying to say is that just because I haven't had sex, that doesn't mean I won't be comfortable doing other things. I just don't want to move too fast. Is that ok?"
"That's fine. It was exactly what I was going to say. It'll happen on it's own when we're both ready."
"Ok, so can we end this conversation now because I'm really uncomfortable!" Julie said.
"I couldn't have said it better myself!" he said. "What do you say we go shopping?"
"Ok. Let me get my keys!"
