The group was laughing loudly when they walked in the room and found Nick laying on the bed watching TV. He looked upset still, almost pouting. Julie felt bad for him and decided she needed to talk to him about it.
"Nick, let's take a walk, just you and me." Julie said.
"Whoa dude! Your woman's moving in on Nick!" AJ joked. Kate elbowed him in the side to shut him up.
"Yeah, you're just upset I'm not moving in on you." Julie said as she waited for Nick to get up. "Come on Nick. Let's go, I won't bite."
"Well, she won't bite much." Brian said. Julie blushed as everyone shared a laugh at her expense.
"Nick, are you coming or are you going to let everyone make fun of me some more?"
"Ok, ok. Where are we going?"
"I dunno. We'll be back soon guys." They walked down the hall and got into the elevator that took them down into the lobby. They went outside and sat down on a bench that was under some trees in the grass. "I'm sorry about Rochelle, Nick. She didn't mean anything by it. There's something else going on with her that I don't know about yet. It's just her way of dealing with things."
"I know, I just get upset when people make fun of my weight. I mean, it's bad enough when people who are supposed to be my fans and don't even know me call me fat, and my weight issue is published in every magazine and web site about us. I mean, don't these people ever think how it would feel if their weight was constantly being publicly ridiculed? But it's an even worse situation when it comes from someone that I...." Nick stopped, not really wanting to say what had started coming out of his mouth.
"That you what, Nick?"
"Nevermind, it's nothing."
"You like Rochelle, don't you?"
"Well, yeah. I don't know why- she was being a total bitch to me but I'm attracted to her for some reason."
"Don't worry Nick. I'll talk to her and kick her ass again for ya!"
"Please don't tell her I like her."
"I won't, but I have this strange feeling that she likes you too, there's just something going on. She'll be back to her old self soon, and then who knows? Maybe you two will hook up."
"I don't think she likes me, Julie. You heard the things she said to me."
"Well, sometimes Rochelle gets uncomfortable around people she doesn't know. Especially when she likes them, she's afraid that they aren't going to like her. It's a self confidence thing that we chicks have."
"It's not just a chick thing, you know."
"Nick, don't let what other people say about you get to you so much. Their opinion isn't important. What you look like doesn't affect how you sing or who you are on the inside. And if you ask me, you're not fat at all. I think you're cute. A definite cutie patootie. I know it's hard not to let people's judgements get to you, but you need to have confidence in yourself and stop caring what other people think because what's important is that you're happy and you like who you are. It's a really liberating feeling when you come to the realization that you don't care all that much how people perceive you because if they are going to pass judgment when they don't even know you, then maybe you don't even want them to know you anyway. Do you see what I'm saying or have I totally confused you?"
"No, I understand what you're saying. Brian's told me some of the same things before."
"Well, he's a pretty smart guy. Maybe you should listen to him once in awhile!"
"Or maybe not! Thanks Julie. Can you not say anything to Brian about what we talked about?"
"If that's what you want, I won't tell anyone. Now let's go back upstairs and party!"
As they were walking back inside, Julie told Nick about the prank she and Kate had pulled in the pool. They walked in the room laughing together, and Julie's arm was draped over his shoulders.
"My goodness, I do believe she got him to smile!" Brian cracked.
"Yeah, we bonded with each other. It's cool now. We came up here to start the party because we just knew that there couldn't be a party with out us."
Nick went over and chatted with AJ and Kate while Brian pulled Julie onto his lap.
"So what did you two talk about?" he asked.
"Stuff."
"Stuff, huh? Sounds like interesting conversation."
"Oh it was. Trust me." she said.
"Julie, why don't you come into the other room. I think there's something we need to talk about." Brian said.
Julie got a worried look as she got up and followed him into the
other
room.
