Chapter 11

Brian sat outside with Trinity and Julie talking to them, being as big of a goofball as he could manage to take their minds off everything. Eventually, the fire department left, and Julie's parents came outside to talk to them.

"Hello Brian. Nice to see you again." Nancy said. "We've decided not to stay in the house for a few days until all the smoke smell clears and we can get the repairs made. We're going down to Miami to stay with Grandma and Grandpa. Julie, bcause you have to work, I'll just exptect you to find a friend or something to stay with. Trinity, let's go pack.” your things and get ready to go."

Once they had gone inside, Julie turned to Brian. "Did you see that? She's really mad at me. I let her down. God- I feel terrible. Where am I going to stay? I've really only got one friend that lives around here, and she's out of town right now."

"Well, you could stay with me if you could get that past your parents. I mean, I have a guest room and everything." Brian offered.

"Brian, I'd love to, but I don't think that's a good idea." Julie said.

"Yeah, you're right. What about AJ's house? He's hardly home anywas so you wouldn't have to put up with him that much and I'm sure he wouldn't mind. You know he's got plenty of room.

"I don't know, I mean, he barely knows me. Why would he let me stay in his house?"

"Because you're a pretty chick, and you're with me!"

"I don't think so. Maybe I'll just stay in a hotel." Julie sighed.

"A hotel, huh? I suppose that could be fun. I know of a good one that's near here. Why don't I take you over there?"

"Sure. Why not? Then we can spend the day together."

"Ok, cool."

"I'm going to go talk to my parents. You can come inside if you like, or sit on the porch. It doens't matter."

"I'll just sit out here. It's a nice day."

"Ok. I'll be back in a few."

Julie went inside to tell her parents her plans. She knocked on their bedroom door and walked in.

"I'm going to stay in a hotel for awhile, because there's really no place else for me to go."

"Julie, sit down for a minute. We want to talk to you about something." Bob said.

"What is it?" she said, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Your mother and I have been talking the last few weeks about something, and after today, well, it just sort of confirmed things for us."

"What is it?"

"Julie, we realize that you have one year left of college, you have a life of your own, and you want to get out an live it without any restrictions. What we're saying is that if you want to, you may move out into your own apartment but only if you can still help your sister. She's going to miss you, but we don't want to keep you from your life. I mean, we can't expect you to stay here for ever." Nancy said.

"Are you guys sure? I mean, I love Trine, and I'll miss her so of course I'll still be over all the time. Who's going to help you if I'm gone?" Julie was shocked.

"Mrs. Jones has offered. Trinity likes her a lot and they get along great. We realize you need some space to grow, that's all."

"Thank you so much you guys! I'm going to start looking tomorrow!"

"Why not today?" her father teased as she gave them both hugs.

"Because I'm spending the day with Brian!"

"You really like this boy, don't you?" Nancy asked.

"Yeah, I think I do. I mean, I haven't known him that long but he's the sweetest guy. And very talented."

"Yes, he certainly is. Well, give us a call tonight and let us know where you are, ok? Now go tell your sister good-bye and pack your things!"

"I will! Thanks so much guys! I love you!" Julie said, giving her parents one last hug before leaving the room. She said goodbye to Trinity, who was looking much less upset about the fire and packed some things up in her bag before running outside to find Brian talking on his cell phone, making a reservation for her at the hotel.

He hung up the phone shortly after she walked outside and noticed the silly grin she had on her face. "What's with the look?" he asked, smiling at her.

"I just got the best news!" she exclaimed.

"You're going to meet the hottest pop band around?"

"No, I'm not going to meet 98 Degrees. I wish!" Julie messed with him.

Brian pouted like a little boy and sat down on the grass. "Oh come on! You know I'm kidding. Anyways, my parents told me that I'm allowed to move out and get my own place! Isn't that great?" she squealed.

"Aww!! Julie's finally growing up! I'm so happy. Now we can party all night long!"

"Hey, yeah! No more curfews! That's the best part! Now let's get out of here before they change their minds."

"No objections here." he said, taking her suitcase from her and putting it in the trunk. "Do you want to follow me over to the hotel so you can have your car there?"

"Sure. I'll meet you there then!" she told him, climbing into her own car. They arrived at the hotel about fifteen minutes later and walked into the lobby to check in. Brian took out his credit card to pay. "Brian, what are you doing?"

"I'm paying the bill, what does it look like I'm doing?"

"You don't need to do that, you know." she said. Just then, the woman behind the counter handed him two room keys. Julie gaze him an odd look.

"I thought I'd surprise you and get a room here for myself. The best part is that they're adjoining rooms so I can sneak in on you while you're sleeping!"

Julie just laughed. "You are just full of tricks, aren't ya? Thanks, Brian."

"Hey- hotels can be fun! We can go swimming, order room service, the sauna..." Brian went on.

Julie and Brian went upstairs to their rooms. Julie was in the middle of unpacking her things and didn't see Brian slowly push open the connecting door. He slowly snuck up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, picking her up and tossing her on the bed. Julie yellped in surprise and then laughed as she was thrown on the bed.

"Got ya!" he yelled.

"Just remember, Littrell. I know where you'll be sleeping tonight!"

"Oh really? Is that a threat or an invitation?"

"You'll see! So what are we doing tonight?"

"I dunno. I need to go home and get some clothes. You wanna see if any of the guys want to come over and hang out?"

"Sure. That sounds fine. Why don't you give them a call?"

Brian called all the guys and announced that AJ and Nick would be coming. Howie had a birthday party with his family, and Kevin had a date with his long time girlfriend, Sherri. "What about AJ's girlfriend?"

"I don't know. I think he's about to break up with her. She's been avoiding him like the plague lately, and he's getting tired of having a non-existant girlfriend."

"And Nick's still single, isn't he?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, I was just thinking of inviting a few friends of mine, that's all."

"Hmm. Not a bad idea!" he said.

"Ok. I'll call them, you go home and get your things!" Julie instructed.

"Yes sir!" Brian said, saluting Juile.

"Now that's the kind of respect I deserve!" she laughed. "I'll see you in a while."

"Ok. I'll hurry back." he said, giving her a quick kiss before he left.
