Julie was working the late shift at the movie theater on Friday night, the busiest night of the week. She lost track of how many tubs of popcorn she'd sold, or how many boxes of nerds. She had burned her hand three times already on the popper, and now some customer was holding up the line complaining that the butter on his popcorn was unevenly distributed.
"All the butter is on the top, and there's none on the bottom! I'd like a free popcorn!" he said.
"Sir, I apologize for that." She got the man a new large popcorn, making sure the butter was coating every kernel. She hated customers like that. At least is was time for the last showings, and then she could go home.
"May I help whomever's next?" she said as the man finally left, satisfied with his new popcorn. She was shocked at who she saw next, but she thought there was no way possible he could be who he looked like.
"I'd like a large popcorn and a large Coke, please. Oh, and I don't care how the butter is!" he said.
She laughed as she got his order, and handed him his change. When she saw the next person in line, she knew that he was indeed who she thought he was. "I'd like a large popcorn with lots of butter, a box of nerds, a soft pretzel, and a large cherry icee."
"A little hungry, are you Nicky?"
"Shut up! I've hardly eaten all day."
"So, what movie are you two seeing?" Julie asked.
"The new Austin Powers movie. Have you seen it?"
"Yeah, I thought it was great! I laughed through just about the whole thing."
"Come on, Brian. They saved us seats." Nick said.
"Enjoy the movie, sir." she said.
"I will, thanks." he said, smiling at her.
Once there was no one left in her line, she stood there, trying to convince herself that she had just been working too long, and imagined that she just sold popcorn to Nick Carter and Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys, but it wasn't working. She was cleaning up her station when the movie let out. She watched all the people file out, to see if she could catch another glimpse. They were the last people to walk out. Not only were Nick and Brian there, but the rest of them, as well as some of the members of the band were with them as well.
Brian walked back up to the counter. "Hi again! Could I have another Coke?" he asked.
"Sure can!" she gave him a coke. "So, did you enjoy the movie?"
"I thought it was hilarious! And the butter on my popcorn was just right!" he said, smiling at her.
"I'm glad someone approves of it!" she laughed.
"My name's Brian. You must be Julie."
"How'd you know my name?" she asked, amazed.
"You're wearing a name tag." he said, laughing.
"Duh! Sometimes I forget about that!" she said, incredibly embarrassed at herself.
"Well, at least that way you'll never forget your name!"
"I guess that's a good point there! It kinda goes with the whole tuxedo they make us wear."
"It doesn't look that bad. It's kinda cute! Well, I gotta go cuz it looks like they're leaving without me. It wouldn't be the first time, either!"
"Ok. Bye!"
He left, and she happily went back to work. "No one is ever going
to
believe this
one!" she said to herself. "I wonder what they were all doing here?"
