Nick swallowed the last of his Pepsi and let out a huge belch. When he noticed the dirty look Kevin was giving him because of it, he let out another one and smiled at him. Kevin shook his head in disapproval and said, "That's attractive. Why don't you do that in front of Angela?"
"That's my booty call," Nick replied, grinning. "I'm practicing for later on." He raised his eyebrows a couple of times and smirked.
"You know she's a virgin, don't you?" Howie asked, nonchalantly, wanting to see Nick's reaction.
Nick looked at him curiously. "What?!? She is not!"
"Yes, she is," Howie said softly. "Right, AJ?"
AJ looked at Nick sternly and replied. "Yes, she is.
I believe that's what Kim Ann implied."
Nick grinned and looked back and forth between Howie and AJ, disbelieving. "Nuh UHH!"
"Yeah, man," Howie elaborated. "Kim Ann was talking about sex this morning and said something to Angie about her not being able to discuss it since she'd never DONE it before."
"She also has a complex about it, too," AJ added, feeling a twinge of guilt for betraying Angela.
"Really?" Nick asked, still not buying it. "I never got that impression from her."
Howie and AJ stood together, nodding their heads. Nick paused thoughtfully, and gauged what would be the cool thing to say at this moment of realization. After a moment of shocked silence, he pounded his fist on his chest and belched. "Bring the virgin to ME!"
AJ and Howie laughed, as he'd hoped they would, but Kevin gave him a severe look of warning. He wasn't going to interfere at this point, but he would defend Angela's honor if necessary. She was a sweet girl.
Brian came into the kitchen with a concerned look on his face. "Kevin, what are we gonna do with all this stuff? I don't know about you, but I'm goin' bowling."
Kevin shrugged, the tiredness showing on his face. "I dunno. We can get to it tomorrow or something."
They hadn't expected the furniture to arrive already. But it had, and the living room was filled with dressers, beds, TV's and stereos. Luckily, the junkyard hard taken the refrigerator before the new one had arrived.
"Can we just leave this stuff here when we go out tonight? You don't think anyone will steal it, do you?" Brian waited for Kevin's answer.
Kevin sighed. "Well, I'm not going bowling you guys. I think I'm gonna stay here and crash. So I'll keep an eye on everything."
"Alone?" Brian asked.
"Yes," Kevin replied. "Unless any of you decide to stay here." He looked at each one of them and was relieved to find that it would be just him.
"So you're just gonna stay here and sleep?" Nick asked.
"Yes, Nick, believe it or not, I didn't sleep well last night. I've been tired all day, and it's really hitting me now. I want to sleep," Kevin replied, somewhat agitated.
Nick cracked a slight smile. "Then we'll take the cell phone with us, just in case something happens."
"You can leave the cell phone here," Kevin responded quickly, taking Nick's bait unknowingly.
"Yeah, I bet so," Nick said gloating. "You're gonna stay here and beep Tori, aren't you?!" He looked around at the other guys, smirking, and they all laughed at his blatant accusation.
"Yes, Nick," Kevin replied, harshly. "I'm going to call Tori and tell her that we're all staying here tonight with three strange girls, alone in an abandoned building filled with high-priced items and no security. I can't think of a better way to spend my night."
"Oh," Nick said thoughtfully. "I was thinking more along the lines of phone sex or something."
Kevin came unglued. "You just think you've got it all figured out, don't you Nick. Well, I hate to disappoint you, but you are way off on your little scenario with Tori and me, so the quicker you drop it, the better."
Nick raised an eyebrow, tauntingly. "You're just jealous cos I've got a virgin and YOU don't."
Howie and AJ started laughing, but Brian looked dumbfounded. "Angela's a virgin?"
"Yeah," Nick said, smiling widely, until he noticed the disapproval on his best friend's face. "Not that that means anything," he added quickly, hoping to take away the implications the grin had entailed.
"Wow," Brian said, shocked. "I had no idea."
"Neither did I," Nick replied, still trying to downplay his coolness he'd been trying to play up, prior to Brian's reaction.
Brian nodded slowly, the more he thought about it. "Yeah, I guess I can see that." He looked at Nick and point blank asked him, "You're not planning on remedying that, are you, Nick?"
Nick smiled, mischievously, unsure of how to answer. He was torn between coolness and sincerity. "Well," he said slowly. "She IS 24, Brian. I think it's all legal and everything."
Brian squinted his eyes a little, studying his friend's eyes to see what was really going on inside his head. "Do you really think that's the wisest thing, Nick?"
Nick was silenced. He looked back and forth between Brian and Howie and AJ, unsure of what to say. After what seemed like an eternity, he decided to try and leave it wide open. "Well, I thought we all agreed that no-one was having sex tonight. I mean, I thought that went without saying, right?"
Brian continued staring at him, eyes squinted, until Nick looked away to AJ and Howie. "Right?" He asked them for support.
"Right," AJ replied, smugly. "That's the impression I got from it all today."
Brian laughed a little. "Well we all knew YOU weren't having sex, AJ."
AJ smiled and said "Fuck you," casually, as if it were meant to be 'thank you' instead. Brian laughed again.
Nick laughed, too, relieved that the heat was off him. His mind was
working
overtime, though, on the subject of Angela's virginity. His
conscience, on one
hand, was telling him to let it go, and his desire for a conquest, on
the other
hand, was telling him to live life to the fullest.
