By now, everybody and their brother have heard about that poor little girl who's ailing from luekemia, and the way those ludicrous Backstreet Boys denied her a visit. It's a terrible occurance, and those five Backstreet Bastards should burn in hell, right? Hmm...not from where I sit.
While I have a deep empathy for that little girl's struggle, I, unlike many, do not wish the Boys eternal pain and suffering for denying her request. Before I elaborate, let me explain that I volunteer with an animal therapy unit which visits Children's Hospital. I know what it's like to be around kids who're sick, and I'd make every one of their wishes come true if it were I were capable of it. There's nothing like seeing their faces light up as I take a bunny out for their inspection, and I'm sure the Boys feel the same way when they meet an ailing fan. But there are only five of them and countless tragedies in this bleak world. These men are not superheroes, neither can they be everything to everyone. While a simple visit may have made this girl's day, it's sometimes just not possible. The Boys have taken on an extremely hectic schedule and this is one of the drawbacks. Sometimes, people aren't able to accomplish all that they desire, and inevitably disappointment follows.
Unfortunately, the media is notorious for blowing things out of proportion, and true to form, they're having a veritable field day with this story featuring those cold hearted Backstreet Boys. They're failed to take into consideration the past work the Boys have done for the Make A Wish Foundation. Furthermore, the foundation went so far as to name the Boys the 1999 Celebrity Wish Granters of the Year. Yeah, those Backstreet Boys are REAL pricks all right.
From where I sit, the view of this current situation isn't as dismal as it's been made out to be. The Boys aren't Hell's spawn afterall. Maybe more people should take in the entire picture before passing judgment. Maybe they shouldn't be so quick to crucify a music group because they aren't supermen.
