When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Chapter 9

"Come on, someone tell me this is not what I am seeing" Nick was being his typical smart assed self as he walked into my house and saw me cooking.

"Yes, it is what you see, I am cooking" I smirked. I was usually a order in food or MacDonald kind of guy but I had been practicing my cooking skills so that I could cook irish dishes for Keavy, you know help her feel more at home and less homesick for Ireland.

"It smells awesome, I would love to stay and sample it but my life insurance is not up to date" Nick flashed me his trademark chessy grin.

"Come on Frack, you know you are dying to try this, think of the teasing you can pull on me if this is really bad" I egged him on.

Nick smiled at me "You know I am kidding, I got the dinner invite and I here. I am lending my stomach to your cuisinal experiment."

"Cuisinal? Is that like resign in Florida?" I asked poking fun at Nick's interview mistakes.

Nick and I broke out into laughter as we waited for the rest of the guys to arrive.

"You have to tell us what this is, oh my god Bone it is delicious" The guys were shoveling the food into their mouths and I was watching smugly, knowing that I would have proof to hold over them if they dared poked fun at my chef talents in the future.

"Keavy's mom made this for me the first time I met them, it is usually served on Saturday nights for dinner. It is called Dublin coddle, it has sausage, bacon potatoes and gravy, real healthy for your cholesteral" I explained.

"Cholesteral, what the hell is that? We are men and real man eat meat" Nick puffed out his chest.

"Well buddy then you need to go and live in Ireland, they are the biggest meat eaters, everything is meat and potatoes."

"If I go to Ireland I won't want to be eating meat, I want to be smothering my american beef salami with the juices of fine irish muff pie" Nick grinned.

We all laughed and my thoughts turned, once again to Keavy. I was trying so hard to prepare everything, to make everything perfect so that when she came she would not be homesick. I had started listening, much to the teasing pleasure of my friends, to irish music such as The Clancy Brothers, Westlife, Rebel and Irish Drinking Songs and of course U2. I had recently started reading the Dubliners by James Joyce, one of the most sucessful irish writers and of course the food I had come to love while on vacation. I wanted to know enough to help Keavy adjust to life in Orlando, in America.

I wanted this to be perfect, perfect just like our love.
