"What do you mean you didn't find it?" The large man's voiced boomed, his balding head growing red, reflecting his anger.
"I searched her office. I tore it apart trying to find that CD, but it wasn't in there," the blonde man said, shifting nervously.
And why didn't you search the rest of the house?" the large man asked as if talking to a child.
"I followed them all day through that park, and when the four of them got settled into their fairytale dinner," he said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes, "I left to search the house. I guess something went wrong at dinner because just as I finished searching the office, Dani and that woman walked in on me. Besides, we aren't sure yet that she's even found the symbol leading to....."
Dropping his head into his hands and shaking it vigorously, the other man mumbled, "You are such an idiot. Why did I ever hire you?" He said as he threw his hands into the air. "Of course she's found it! All four of them are flying to Dallas to stop the production on the CD. She would have stopped it already if Wilks hadn't been able to tamper with her security clearance."
"I did find the information for their flight to Dallas this morning when I searched her office last night. I've booked myself a seat on that flight. She'll have the CD with her, I am sure of it. I will get it back from her." The blonde man squirmed uncomfortably in his seat.
"You had better! Wilks and I have taken care of the production of the CD's. She won't be able to stop them, but if she discovers our little scheme, she can use the prototype to counteract it. It won't be hard to plant it on her again later when we are ready for her to take the fall. Even if she takes it posthumously. Comprendo?"
The minion ran his hands through his hair, anxious for this conversation to be over. He was being paid well to act as the mastermind behind this little operation, but he was beginning to wonder if it was worth it. No one knew of the large man's involvement except himself and Wilks, the operative they had placed in the production plant almost nine months ago. He had easily planted programmers and hackers in several positions in the organization. Everything had gone smoothly until the prototype disks had been sent out. They were so close to achieving their goal. And him collecting his half million dollars. He wasn't giving up now. He stiffened his back, resolved to carrying out the plan. At whatever the cost.
Dani stopped suddenly halfway down the stairs, clamping her hand over her mouth as she stared down into the foyer. "What?" Howie asked. She pointed her finger at the foyer; at the base of the stairs lay a lacy bra and a white shirt. Howie snickered as he realized what he was looking at. "I may not have to lock them in a room after all," Dani mused as she started on down the stairs. "Ummmm, Dani. . . . . I don't think it would be a good idea for you to go charging in there," Howie told her as he eyed the discarded clothing. He caught her arm and pulled her to him. "Why don't we just go back to our room and wait for them to wake up on their own?" he suggested, desire written all over his face.
Dani let out an exasperated sigh. "You're insatiable!" she said laughing, "But we have a plane to catch and they are going to have to get up whether they're ready to or not," Dani said firmly as she headed down to the foyer. Howie quickly followed. At the bottom of the staircase, Dani's mouth fell open and she turned to muffle her laughter against Howie's chest. Howie snorted when he saw what had Dani so hysterical. Sam's lacy panties dangled from the slowly revolving ceiling fan. He laughed even harder as a hand rose over the back of the couch and begun frantically waving them away.
AJ silently cursed his two friends, as he motioned for them to go away. He had plans for this morning, and they didn't include an audience. Last night had been like old times. He and Sam had always been good in the sack together. It was the one constant in their relationship that he knew he could count on. And he fully intended to use it to his advantage. She wouldn't be able to resist the sexual attraction between them, and he knew it. Gazing down at her, he smiled tenderly as he brushed her hair back from her face. She winced in her sleep as if in pain. AJ hoped she wouldn't feel too bad when she finally opened her eyes, but given the amount of alcohol she had consumed last night, he knew it was inevitable. He sighed and tugged the blanket up more securely around her shoulders, cuddling her close.
Sam flinched as the pain in her head began seeping through to her consciousness. She snuggled deeper into the warmth enveloping her, trying to escape the consequences of her overindulgence the night before just a little while longer. She breathed in the woody oriental scent that surrounded her, finding it strangely comforting.
"Rise and shine!" a cheery voice rang out. AJ opened one eye and stared up at Howie and Dani's smiling faces over the back of the couch. He placed one finger against his lips. "Shhh," he said quietly. "People are trying to sleep here."
"Well, that's one word for it," Dani laughed, pointing to the ceiling fan. Howie smirked as AJ's glance followed the direction of Dani's finger. AJ smiled smugly when his gaze fell on the revolving panties. He rubbed his knuckles against his chest as he preened. "I told you she'd come around once she got another taste of the Bone," he said cockily.
"Don't flatter yourself, McLean," Sam spoke up, her voice strained and her eyes still closed. "You just happened to be convenient last night," she said. She clutched the blanket against her as she tried to sit up. The sudden movement sent agonizing waves of pain through her head and she sank back down on the couch moaning pitifully. "This is all your fault, AJ," she said weakly.
"Sam, I'm sorry, but if you're going to shower before we catch that plane, you'd better hurry," Dani prodded her. Sam opened her eyes the merest slit. "I am hurrying," she said, not moving. "If I move any faster, my head is gonna explode." AJ laughed sympathetically. "Come on, I'll help you upstairs...... Hey!" he exclaimed, grabbing for one of the throw pillows and holding it over his groin as Sam whisked the blanket off of him. She wrapped the throw around her and stood up unsteadily, clutching it with one hand and her head with the other as she stumbled toward the stairs. "The last thing I need from you is any more help," she shot back over her shoulder.
"Stubborn bi. . ." he muttered, sitting up as he reached for his pants lying on the floor. Dani blushed and turned her back as he dropped the pillow and pulled on his trousers. "We need to be out of here within the next hour," she informed him, still blushing furiously. "Yeah, see if you can hurry Sam along," Howie suggested, egging his friend on. "Oh, right," AJ said sarcastically as he grabbed Sam's panties from the ceiling fan and scooped up the rest of their scattered clothing before following her upstairs.
AJ heard her retching before he even got to her room. Dropping their clothes on the bed, he walked into the bathroom to find her bent over the commode, the blanket having slipped to her waist. AJ squatted down beside her and pulled her long hair back over her shoulders and out of her face. He held it back with one hand, resting his chin in the other hand, his elbow propped on his knee. He waited for her to finish emptying her stomach. Sam was mortified. She told him repeatedly to leave her alone but he just sat there, holding her hair and watching her puke. When her heaving finally subsided, he wiped her pale face with a cold wet cloth. "Come on," he said, urging her to her feet, the blanket falling to the floor. "You'll feel better after a hot shower."
"I am not taking a shower with you Alex," she said weakly.
"Well, you might wait until you're asked before you refuse," he said wryly, reaching into the shower and turning the water on. "But since you insist. . . . ." he said, grinning. Sam was too miserable to protest any further, and she stood waiting quiescently while AJ adjusted the water temperature. When it was to his satisfaction, he slipped off his pants and stepped into the shower. She stepped in after him and allowed him to pull her underneath the hot water with him. Leaning her head back, she let the water sluice down her body. AJ lifted her hair, separating the tresses with his fingers until it was completely saturated. This was a ritual he had performed many times before, helping her wash her glorious hair, but he had forgotten how much he enjoyed it. He gently worked the shampoo through her hair until the entire length was lathered. It took almost as long to rinse out all of the soap. He pushed her hair over her shoulder and washed her back, his touch impersonal and brisk. With that accomplished, he handed her the bar of soap before reaching for the shampoo and lathering his own hair, his eyes closed against the sting of the soap. As she finished her ablutions, Sam couldn't resist the opportunity to admire his body. She ran her eyes over his broad shoulders and washboard abs, down to his manhood and his strong, firm thighs. When she glanced back up at his face, he was watching her, a slight smile on his lips. She shrugged and stepped out of the shower, grabbing a thick, plush towel and wrapping it around her body. She wrapped her hair in another towel and retreated to the bedroom.
AJ smiled broadly as Sam stepped out of the shower. She might insist on pretending she didn't want him anymore, but he knew better. He rinsed his hair and washed his body quickly. After turning off the water, he shook his head, sending water droplets flying. As he stepped out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist, then picked up another one and began rubbing his hair dry. He reached out and wiped the steam from the mirror with his hand. Inspecting himself, he turned his face from side to side as he rubbed his hand over his goatee. He really should take time this morning to sculpt it properly, he thought, but he doubted he had time before they needed to leave. He'd just have to do it later after they got checked into their hotel in Dallas. A smile spread across his face as he wondered how Sam would react when she realized he'd only booked two suites at the hotel. Ah, well, nothing a little time together in the Jacuzzi couldn't fix, he thought confidently. He slung his trousers over his shoulder and strolled into the bedroom.
Sam sat on the edge of the bed, still wrapped in a towel. Her head was cradled in her hands. A wide-tooth comb hung tangled in her hair. "Sam," AJ began, "you'd better get moving if you don't want Dani up here riding your ass." When she didn't respond, he sat down on the bed and gently freed the comb from her hair. "Here," he said tenderly, "let me help you."
"I can do it," she said plaintively, raising her head and reaching for the comb. Ignoring her, AJ patiently combed through her wet tresses. He'd always loved brushing her hair and running his fingers through it. When he finally had all the tangles out, he laid the comb aside and plaited her hair loosely into a single braid. "Now, jump into some clothes and throw some things into a bag before Dani comes looking for you," he told her, before heading to his own room to dress.
Fifteen minutes later Sam made her appearance downstairs. She had donned a ribbed fuchsia knit shirt with a crew collar tucked into snug black jeans. Her dark sunglasses were already in place on her pale face. She dropped her small traveling bag at the front door alongside Dani and Howie's suitcases and followed the smell of freshly brewed coffee to the kitchen. "Don't mind me," she said as she walked into the kitchen and found Dani perched on the island, Howie standing between her legs. Sam grabbed a mug from the cabinet and poured it full with the steaming hot brew. She inhaled the rich aroma, exhaling a satisfied sigh.
Howie glanced at Sam and turned his worried expression back to Dani. "Are you sure you're okay, baby? You look as green as Sam does," he said waving his hand in Sam's direction. "I'm alright, just feeling a bit nauseous. You know how nervous flying makes me. I'll be fine," Dani said reassuringly as she turned her attention to Sam, effectively changing the subject. "Well?"
"Well, what?" Sam responded, as she imbibed the hot liquid.
"So you and AJ made up last night?" Dani pried.
"AJ and I fucked last night," Sam corrected her. "After all, it's what we do best together," she added, sarcastically.
"Ummm. . . this sounds like girl talk," Howie said, moving toward the doorway. "Think I'll go check on Bone. Uh, the limo ought to be here in the next couple of minutes," he reminded the women, giving Sam an apologetic look before he left the room.
"I don't want to discuss it, Dani," Sam told her friend before the other woman could ask. Sam
softened her tone when she saw the look on Dani's face. "Please," she said pleadingly. "My head is
pounding so bad right now and thinking about AJ makes it hurt even worse." Dani laughed at her friend.
"I'll let you off the hook for now," she agreed, "but don't think you can have wild, panty-tossing sex with
AJ in my house. . . . . . .and not tell me how he got you out of them." Dani hopped gingerly down from
the counter. "Come on, we've got a plane to catch."
