Chapter Fourteen: A Sad Goodbye

After a quick prayer, they took their places. He snuck out a little early to see just how many girls they’d be dealing with. It looked packed, like normal. Sighing, he took consolation that he would have Nikki right there as encouragement throughout the show. He was sure it would go great with no major mishaps. Luckily, it went off without a hitch. However, he was watching Nikki most of the show and felt bad that he was kinda neglecting his duties by ignoring most of the other girls.

Waiting between sets, he wondered what would happen with Nikki after this night. They would be staying in LA for one more day and then would be traveling to San Francisco. He wanted to stay with her longer to develop a real relationship, but he had his responsibilities and it wasn’t like he could just quit his job!

He would have invited her to come with them on tour for a while, but he knew she had already missed a couple of days of classes and couldn’t really miss much more. He couldn’t really expect her to, either. They barely knew each other.

After the show, he instructed a member of arena security to escort her backstage. He met her there. She had nothing but praise for the show and said they all did so well, from Kevin’s keyboarding to even the slightest contribution of the lowest level techie. That’s what he liked about her. She was always thinking about others, unlike his previous girlfriends who were always plotting and scheming to use him to get close to one of the other guys... He resented how they had treated him and was happy he finally found someone who cared for HIM.

They talked for a while as the techies and crew packed up and prepared to call it a night and as the fans began to slowly drift off with only the few, the dedicated, the obsessed staying behind. This would be the worst part of their evening. Finally escaping with everyone intact and losing the cars that tried to follow them, they arrived at the hotel. Now he had to do what he had been dreading all evening. It was time to say goodbye. vThey exchanged e-mail addresses and phone numbers (he gave her his cell number, making her promise not to share it with anyone) and he promised to call her soon. They had a few more hours to talk before she had to leave. He had paid for an extension to her room rental so she could stay with him at the arena rather than checking out. As the time of her departure grew near, he drew her close, brushing his lips against hers ever so gently, drawing her slowly into a passionate kiss to leave memories of him lingering in her mind. With that they parted, hoping to see each other again in the near future.
