Chapter Thirteen: The Moment She Was Waiting For

Sure, she felt bad she had lied to him about being interested in him, but it was for a good cause, though, right? Of course! No other cause was more worthy. She tried to comfort herself, justifying her actions so she wouldn’t feel so guilty. They had just met that day, so he couldn’t be too serious about her yet. Besides, it wasn’t like she was his dream girl or anything! She was probably just another girl on the road. Looking around the room, she met Brian’s icy stare.

“You had better not hurt him. Fair warning,” he growled as he passed by.

She rolled her eyes, offended he would make such a blind assumption. He didn’t even know her! Convinced she would have a good time even if Brian was being a jerk, she began to concentrate on the setup of the arena. It was three hours before showtime and things were beginning to get hectic.

“Hey, are you hungry?”

As she looked up into his sweet, innocent eyes, she felt a pang of guilt, but quickly suppressed it. She took his arm as he led her into the rec room where catering had prepared a delicious meal. They ate together and talked, isolated from the others, who did anything from play pool to eat a quick meal. She watched Nick as he laughed and joked over dinner with Brian. He didn’t appear to notice she was there. He didn’t even come over to say hi or flirt, not even once!

After they were finished eating, the guys gathered in the center of the room as the crew and dancers quieted down to watch and listen. They warmed up their voices with vocal exercises and simple harmonies. After a few minutes, everyone dispersed to prepare themselves individually for the show.

D told her it might be better if she waited outside so the fans didn’t notice her as much. He handed her a ticket and told her she would be sitting right in front of the part of the stage he would be stationed at most of the evening. She smiled, gave him a hug, and wished him the best of luck. In seconds, she found herself in a crazy world of chanting fans, impatient to have the doors to the arena opened.

It seemed like ages before she was able to get to her seat, right up in the front where she could see them clearly and they could most definitely see her. Once the show started, she realized he wasn’t kidding when he said he’d be in front of her most of the show. Though he moved around a bit, he always seemed to come back to her section. He was close enough to touch if she felt like reaching forward.

Much of his attention focused on her as he winked to her throughout the show. He would occasionally have to tend to the needs of other girls in that he would not be doing his job if he focused all his attention on her.

The concert was spectacular. She had anticipated this event for months, but had never imagined it would be so stunning. The performance was flawless and she was now closer to her goal than ever…
