~*~Chapter 4~*~
"Danielle!" Nick called. He had finally gotten tired of knocking onthe door and had decided to just walk in. The lightswere on but Danielle wasn't around.
"Dani!" Nick yelled again.He walked into the bedroom and heard the shower. "Thank God." Hesighed somewhat relieved she was alive. "Danielle, I'm here." Hesaid through the cracked bathroom door.
Danielle didn't answer."D-Dani." He lightly tapped on the door. Nick slowly walked in. He sawher figure in the shower curled up against the wall. Nick pulled openthe shower door to see Danielle, her head burried in her knees with thewater beating down on her. Nick felt of the water. It was freezingcold. Without thinking, Nick climbed into the shower and turned offthe water. He dropped to his knees next to her. "Come here,sweetie."
"It's not fair, Nick." Danielle threw herarms around Nick's shoulders and cried.
"I know, baby, I know." Nick rubbed her back. "Sweetheart, you'retrembling." Nick noticed. He reached around the shower door andgrabbed her towel. Nick wrapped Danielle up and stood her to her feet.
"We were best friends." Danielle cried as Nick led her to the bed.He sat her down and kissed her forehead. Nick kneeled in front of her.
"Listen to me, Danielle. There's a reason for everything." Daniellelooked away. Nick grabbed her chin and pulled her back into his view."Things are going to be okay." Danielle let a tear slide down hercheek. She tightened the fluffy navy blue towel around her body. Nickrubbed her thighs.
"You're all wet, Nick." Danielle pointed out.
"Yeah." Nick laughed standing to his feet.
"Nick." Danielle stood also, grabbing Nick'shand.
"Yes." Nick walked closer to her.
"Do you realize how long it's been since wemade love?" Danielle seductively asked. Nick grinned before pulling herlips into his.
"Danielle." They heard someone in the livingroom say. Danielle pulled away, Nick taking a second to realize the kisshad been broken. Danielle slowly emerged out of the bedroom leavingNick behind.
"Angel?" Danielle said with confusion in hereyes.
"Hi." Angel uncomfortably adjusted thebackpack on her shoulder.
"You didn't knock." Danielle pointed to thedoor.
"I live here." Angel tilted her head andraised her eyebrows.
"Um...Angel, you left. A year ago. You nevercalled, you never wrote...where have you been?"
"Kansas." Angel answered lowering her head."I have family there." She informed.
"What happened with Jack?"
"Football scholarship to UCA." Angel saidlooking around theapartment.
"So, did you hear about Kara?" Daniellequestioned.
"Yeah, I heard this morning."
"Why did you come back?"
"Dani...I don't know. Maybe it was badtiming." Angel attempted tojoke.
"Well, look...I need to put some clothes on."Danielle realized she was still in a towel. "I'll be back." As Danielleleft the room, Nickcame in.
"Long time, no see, Ang." He took a seat onthe couch. Nick had changed into a pair of dry clothes that had been leftat Danielle's a couple of nights before.
"Yeah, long time." Angel smiled and sat in the recliner across fromhim. "Seen AJ?" Nick asked. Angel opened her mouth but no sound came out.
"No." She finally answered.
"Does he know you're here?"
"No, again." Angel rubbed her knees andshrugged her shoulders. "Could we not talk about AJ?"
"What are you here for then?" Nick asked.
"I wanted to see Dani."
"That's not the truth." Nick rolled his eyes.
"Excuse me." Angel said offended that hedidn't believe her.
"Just tell me the truth."
"Fine." Angel looked away then back at Nick."I needed help. I have to find a way to support my son."
"Your what? Maybe I was a little too pushy onthis truth issue." Nick joked.
"No, I have a child, Nick. You wanted the truth. You got it."
"Is it Jack's?" Nick asked.
"No, it's--"
"Nick, I just wanted to--" AJ came in thedoor, but stopped when he saw Angel. "...apologize." AJ couldn't take his eyesaway from her.
"No problem, AJ. I'm sorry too." Nick headedinto the bedroom to leave the two alone.
"I've got to go." Angel grabbed her bag and rushed for the door.
"Wait!" AJ grabbed her arm as she brushed passed him. He held herclose, not able to speak. "I've missed you." He finally said. Angelbroke his stare and left.
"I've missed you, too." She whispered whenshe got outside. Angel
looked behind her at the door before walking off.
