During the flight Howie called the Raleigh police and explained the situation. They picked him up at the airport and rushed to the apartment complex. Howie and the officers ran up to Rachels' door and knocked.
"Police." said one of the officers after noting the damage. "Open up!"
"Rachel!" cried Howie.
"Shit. Well, ain't this a party." said Steve retucking his belt. "This ain't over, angelbaby." he ran out the fire escape."
Finally the police were able to open the door with help from the building supervisor. "Fire escape!" Rachel shouted and the police ran out. They apprehended Steve a block away.
"Red..." choked Howie running to her and undoing the belt and rope, "Oh, God, red..."
"It's over now." Rachel gasped through cracked and bleeding lips. "It's over." Holding each other, they formed their own safehouse as the
chaos around them erupted.
