Brain paused his game of Mario Kart to answer the phone. He was surprised to hear Sky’s voice on the other end. She sounded as if she was crying.
“Hey B, what are you doing”, she said trying to hold back the tears.
“Just sitting here playing Mario Kart with Nick and Kevin, I thought you were with AJ what is wrong”, he said puzzled.
“Nothing can you come and get me please? I will explain it to you when you get here.”
“Sure, where are you?” he asked worried.
“I am at the corner of South and Main”, Sky replied anxiously.
“Okay, I’ll be right there”, he said knowing that was only a couple of blocks from AJ’s. “God now what did he do”, he thought to himself as he told the guys what he was doing and grabbed his keys.
Brian pulled up to the corner of South and Main to find Sky sitting on the corner sobbing. She quickly got in the car and they took off.
“Thanks Brian, I hate to do this to you but I had no one else to call”, Sky said wiping the tears from her face.
“I am glad you called, it is good to see you again.” Brian said knowing that if Sky wanted to talk about what just happened she would, he didn’t’ want to be too pushy.
As they drove back to Brian’s house they talked about what was going on with each of them for the past six years. They walk up the stairs of Brian’s house as Nick yells at Howie for walking in front of the TV while he is trying to play.
“Damn it D get out of the way”, Nick yelled.
“Oh Nick calm down it is only a game”, Howie replied
As Sky walked into the room she was greeted with hugs that felt so familiar and good, considering what she has just been through.
“Sky we are so glad to see you”, Kevin said with his southern smile.
“Yeah we really missed you”, Howie said.
“It is nice to have you back Sky”, Nick said as he returned back to his game.
They sat and talked for awhile about how things were going, their families, and what had been going on the last six years. Sky was starting to forget about the earlier events of the day when the phone rang.
Brian picked up the phone saying “Hello”.
“Hey, B-Rok, it’s Bone what are you doing?” AJ said wondering if Brian was who Sky had called. He called her house but Jem said she hadn’t heard from her, and AJ was starting to worry.
“Oh hey bone what is up?” Brian said as Sky shot him a look from across the room. Brian knew exactly what the look meant.
“Nothing, is Sky there?” AJ asked hoping he’d say yes.
Brian looked at Sky as he lied to one of his best friends, “No man, Sky isn’t here, I haven’t heard from her”
“Oh okay well if you hear from her will you let her know I am looking for her.” AJ said. Brian could hear the hurt in his voice.
“Sorry man, but I will let her know if I see her.” Brian replied feeling bad about what he had just done.
“Thanks man, I’d appreciate that. Bye” AJ said trying not to let Brian know anything was wrong.
“Bye Bone”, Brian said hanging up the phone.
Brian looked at Sky with concern but she just sat in a chair in the middle of the room staring at the floor deep in thought.
“Why do I let him get to me like that? I never use to care.” Sky thought to herself.
“Why the hell did you tell AJ Sky wasn’t here, Brian? What is going on did I miss something?” Nick belted out, snapping Sky back to reality.
“I don’t know”, Brian replied as they all stared at Sky.
“Well I am guessing you guys want to know what is going on”, Sky said.
“Well it would be nice”, Brian and Nick replied at the same time as Kevin and Howie sat there eager to know what was going on.
“Well AJ and I got in a fight today after we got home from the mall, I just simply asked him why he didn’t return any of my letters and he got all pissed off about it and called me a bitch, so I told him off.” She replied, you could hear the hurt in her voice. “He said that he never got any of the letters, and I sent one a month for 3 years I know he had to get some of them” she said looking for understanding.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if his bitch of a girlfriend, Vanessa got a hold of them and threw them out.” Nick replied.
“ Oh I am guessing that’s the girl that pulled him away when I was talking to him at the party.”
“Yep that would be her,” Brian said. “ After you left they started going out off and on for 3 years and they just recently got back together.”
“ Yeah she’s jealous of you because you’re all AJ ever talked about.” Replied Nick.
“Really?” Sky said with a smile.
“Yeah, you have no idea how much he missed you.” Howie said sweetly.
“I don’t understand if he missed me so much why didn’t he write or call?” Sky questioned.
“You know how AJ is it was hard on him when you left and he figured if he tried to forget you it would be easier.” Kevin said.
“God, I hate this sometimes I wish I never ran into him again”, she said.
“Don’t say that I am sure everything will work out” Brian commented.
“Brian I am really tired I have had a rough day do you think you can take me home?”, Sky asked.
“Why don’t you just crash here in one of the spare bedrooms and we can go and play some b-ball tomorrow, I miss kicking your ass.” Brian said jokingly.
“Oh please B-Rok don’t talk your shit with me, yeah I guess I will just crash here. Let me call Jem and tell her what is going on so she doesn’t worry.” Sky said as she told everyone goodnight and went to one of the spare bedrooms to call Jem.
Sky woke up the next morning, and had some breakfast with the guys. After breakfast she had Brian drop her off over to her house so she could take a quick shower, leave Jem a note, and get her car. She told Brian that she would just pick him up when she was finished.
After the game of basketball, Brian was of course teasing Nick about being beaten by a girl. She was glad that she decided to stay at Brian’s and play basketball with them…it was just like old times, plus it took her mind off of AJ. Brian and Sky hopped into the car, she was going to take Brian home and go get Jem to see if she wanted to go and catch a movie.
“Remember to get gas, Sky” Brian said on the way to his house. “You are riding on fumes.”
“Don’t worry B I won’t forget”, she said as she saw the storm clouds moving in quickly. “Maybe Jem and I won’t go to the movies it looks like it is going to get bad out”, she said to herself.
“Well Sky, I had fun today give me a call tomorrow”, Brian replied as they pulled in front of his house.
“K, B I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” Sky replied with a smile.
As she drove down the street she heard a familiar song on the radio, “End of the Road”, that was her and AJ’s song when they were younger. She couldn’t help but remember how he would sing that to her when she was upset. Her memory was interrupted when her car started jerking, she pulled off the road just as the car died and the rain began to pour down.
“Shit, I forgot to get gas…just my damn luck it is pouring out too.”
She got her cell phone out to call Jem, but there was no dial-tone because of the storm.
“Oh great now what the hell am I going to do? I can’t stay here I am going to freeze.” She look at the street signs, sighing she realized that AJ’s house was only 3 blocks away.
“Great, oh well I have no other choice?” she said as she jumped out of her car she ran through the pouring rain towards AJ’s house. She stood on the door step contemplating whether or not to ring the door bell.
“Well I can’t stand out here all night” she said to herself as she rang the bell.
AJ was sitting in his house listening to some CD’s when the doorbell rang.
“Who could that be in this weather? I hope it’s not Vanessa.” He thought to himself.
He opened the door to find a soaking wet adorable face looking at him.
“My car broke down, can I come in and use the phone to call Brian and I will be out of your way” said she just as the power went out. “Great, I hope the phones are still working”.
“It’s over there” he said pointing to the phone as he took her hand to lead her through the darkness.
She pulled her arm away as she said, “Yeah, I know where it is”.
AJ lit some candles as she headed for the phone, he couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she looked at this very moment, and how her wet clothes clung to her hypnotizing figure.
“Shit the phones are down too, AJ if it isn’t too much of a problem could you drive me home”, she asked him, as she saw how good he looked tonight in his baggy jeans and his white wifebeater.
“Um, I let D borrow my car because he had a date and his was in the shop”, AJ stated.
“Great, now what am I suppose to do?” she said quietly.
“You can just stay here, I’ll get you a towel and some clothes to change into”, he said hoping she would just agree with him.
“Well I guess I have no choice”, she said knowing she wanted to stay.
They went upstairs and AJ got her a towel for her to dry off with, and grabbed her a pair of sweatpants and a wifebeater to change into. He handed them to her and told her that she could change in his room. He set a candle in his room so she could see and told her that he would wait outside the door for her so she wouldn’t have to go downstairs in the dark by herself. She put her clothes on and as she was drying her hair with the towel the candle went out. Scared she yelled for AJ.
“I am right here Sky what is wrong?” He asked hoping she was okay.
“I accidentally blew out the candle with my towel, and I can’t see will you please come in here and help me.”
“Sure”, he said as he opened the door and quickly walked in.
As he walked in he bumped into Sky sending them both onto the bed. As they both lay there laughing they stared lustfully into each other’s eyes.
“Get off me” Sky said jokingly but before she could finish her sentence she felt AJ’s soft lips on hers.
She lovingly kissed him back. As they pulled away he gently ran his fingers through her hair, staring deep into her enchanting blue eyes. She stared back at him, realizing then how much she did and always had truly loved him.
“I have wanted you like this for so long, I have loved you since the first day we met”, AJ whispered into her ear.
“I love you too”, she said quietly back to him.
He traced her lips with his finger as she ran her fingers down his back. “I am sorry for what I said before”, he confessed. “I didn’t mean any of it”.
“I forgive you AJ”, she said as she kissed his lips.
“I thought I was going to lose you again, I can’t live without you Sky, you’re my best good friend now and forever”, he said as he kissed her fingertips.
There was a loud clash of thunder outside, and Sky grabbed AJ’s hand in fear, he whispered in her ear, “Sky baby, don’t be afraid, I’ll take care of you forever” and with that he laid a single kiss on her lips.
“Make love to me Sky”, he asks as he kissed her cheeks.
Sky kissed him passionately her hands wondering down to his belt buckle, she undid the buckle along with his pants as he slowly lifted her shirt over her head. He tenderly kissed her body as he ever so gently took off her sweatpants. She removed his shirt as he kissed her neck whispering in her ear how much he loved her. She delicately kissed his shoulders as he carefully emmerced himself into her. She left out a soft moan as he asked her “Baby, are you okay?”
She kissed him and he knew with that kiss what she was thinking. They stared passionately at each other as she whispered “I love you”.
He smiled at her as he kissed her nose. “I always have loved you
and I always will”.
