Sky stood there in amazement, "Alex?"
They stared at each other in stunned silence, as a million thoughts ran through Sky’s head.
"Wow, it's been awhile," AJ said breaking the uncomfortable silence.
"Yeah, it has. So........" Sky replied not knowing what to say next.
"You look.......breathtaking," AJ commented as he looked her up and down with a smile.
Just as Sky was about to reply a beautiful brunette came up behind AJ wrapping her long elegant arms around him as she whispered in his ear just loud enough for Sky to hear "Come on baby, lets go dance".
Before another word was spoken, AJ was dragged to the dance floor leaving Sky behind in complete distraught not knowing what to do or say. Relentlessly, she turned around heading for the door as she felt tears swelling up in her eyes.
“Sky, where are you going?” Jem hollered.
“I’ll see you at home, I gotta get out of here,” Sky said holding back her tears.
Back at Sky and Jem’s apartment -
“What the hell is wrong with you, why did you run out of there so fast?” Sky heard Jem yell from the bottom of the steps.
She quickly put the away the photo album she was looking at and wiped the tears away that had fallen on the pages. “You will never believe what happened to me!!”
“Well first of all I have to tell you who I ran into,” Jem replied as a big smile appeared on her face. “Your little friend, Alex just happened to come up to me after you left, wondering where you had gone.”
“What!! What the hell did he say? No forget it, I don’t care I hate him” Sky remarked with anger in her voice.
“What are you talking about?” Jem replied amazed at what her best friend had said. “Wait, he is the reason you ran out so quick, isn’t it?? Oh shit, you are going to kill me!”
“Oh no, Jem what did you do?”
“Ummm.....well I sorta gave him our address” Jem whispered.
“You WHAT!!!!”
“Well I didn’t know what happened and that he was the reason you left. What happened anyway?” Jem replied eager to know what was going on.
“Oh nothing, who cares anyway he is probably to busy dancing with that bitch to come over. I mean, Jesus I haven’t seen him for six years you would think that he would have more than ten words to say to me.”
“Oh, so that is why you are pissed,” Jem said just as the doorbell rang.
Both girls looked at each other startled at the sound of the doorbell. Neither one wanting to get up to see who the mysterious visitor could be. “Tell me that’s not him, I am going to kill you Jem,” replied Sky, knowing deep down inside she wanted it to be him.
Sky looked at Jem “Are you going to get that or what?”
“Hell no, you know it’s for you” Jem joked.
“Yeah right, It isn’t him” replied Sky.
“Then why don’t you go and get it.”
“Fine you big baby,” Sky said annoyed.
She walked down the steps as the doorbell rang again. “Hold on a sec, I’m coming!” She took a deep breath taking the doorknob in her hand, she slowly opened the door to discover the brown eyed boy that she once shared her deepest thoughts with, holding a single daisy. As he handed it to her he said sweetly, “Welcome back my best good friend.”
Sky stood there trying not to cry. He still knew how to get to her after all these years. Without warning he picked her up off of the ground giving her a huge bear hug one that she remembered so well. “I am sorry for what happened earlier” he said with remorse in his voice. “I was just so taken away from seeing you after all this time I didn’t know what to do or say. I just…”
But before he could finish Sky quickly interrupted, “It’s okay. Come on in, do you want a drink or anything?”
“No thanks, I am okay,” AJ said smiling.
Jem came down the step smiling, she had been eavsdropping from the top of the stairs and was glad that things were going to be okay, “Hi AJ!”
“Oh, hi Jem, how are you doing?”
“Good, I guess you are doing better,” Jem replied with a smirk.
“Yeah thanks again, Jem,” AJ said laughing.
“Well, I am just grabbing a drink and heading for bed. Talk to you later AJ, goodnight Sky,” Jem said in a hurry.
AJ and Sky headed towards the couch. “Do you wanna watch T.V or something?” Sky asked.
“Well, I would rather just talk for a little bit, I can’t stay long though because it’s getting pretty late and we have a photo shoot early in the morning,” AJ said staring at his one time best friend. “Shit I can’t believe how beautiful she is” he told himself.
“So how are the guys?” Sky asked as she noticed AJ staring at her.
“Oh umm…they are fine, they were happy to know that you are back in town. They can’t wait to see you. Brian actually wants me to give you his number so you can give him a call.”
“Okay let me grab a pen,” Sky replied as she stood up to get a pen and a piece of paper from the desk to write Brian’s number down. AJ couldn’t help but stare at the way her body moved.
“God, what am I doing she was my best friend, I can’t look at her like that, I have a girlfriend,” AJ said to himself.
“Hello, AJ what is the number for the third time?” Sky said impatiently.
“Oh, uh, it’s 555-6582, he said to give him a call tomorrow”
“So do you live in Florida still or are you just here for the party?” Sky asked as she sat down the paper.
“Why baby, you wanna come over and get frisky with me??” AJ said jokingly.
“Hunny don’t flatter yourself,” Sky joked back.
“Yeah you know you want piece of this,” he said striking a pose. “I live about 7 miles down the road actually, I am surprised we haven’t ran into each other before tonight”.
“Oh, I just got here about a week ago, tonight is the first time I have been out since I have been here.” Sky said as she noticed how handsome he had become.
“Are you serious? Damn girl, I’ll give you a tour tomorrow if you don’t have anything else to do.”
“Hmm….I’ll have to check my schedule,” Sky said smiling.
“God did I miss that smile,” AJ replied not realizing he said that out loud. She just looked at him as he quickly said, “ How about I just come and get you after the photo shoot around one?”
“That sounds good,” she replied as they got up and headed towards the door.
“Goodnight AJ, drive safely” she said as she opened the door.
“Goodnight,” he said half-heartedly.
Just as she was about to shut the door he turned around and looked deep into her eyes and said “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too.”
He walked away smiling as he tried to remember the last time he had been so happy.
