Wiccanism Dr. Jerald Brousseau Garner founded Wiccanism in 1930’s. Come may think that Wiccanism has to deal with Satanism, but it is truly a spin off of Paganism and has nothing to do with Satanism, nor Christianity. The people who practice Wiccanism, are into nature and embrace Earth’s attributes. They also believe in the non-conformity to society. They believe in many gods and demi-gods but one main god and goddess. The god has three parts and they are the young lord, the father, and the ancient one, which relate to the position of the sun. The goddess has three parts as well, the maid, the mother, and the crone, which relate to the phases of the moon. The god rules over the fall and the winter, and the goddess rules over the spring and summer. Wiccanism has one simple rule “And it harm none, do what you will.”: however, there is a secondary rule called the three fold law and it says that whatever action you do, good or bad, it will be returned to you three fold. Wiccans believe that the universe is made up of energy and that they can manipulate this energy to make changes in their lives and others. Not only do they work with the gods, they work with from elements: fire which relates to the color red and represents south, water relates to the color blue and represent west, air relates to the color yellow and represents the east, and earth relates to the color green and represents the north. Wiccans celebrate two kinds of holidays called the Evesbates (the word literally means minor celebration) they are celebrated once a month on every full moon. The second kind of holiday is called Sabbats and they are celebrated according to the phases of the moon. Samhain October 31 Yule December 21 or 22 Imbolc February 2 Ostara March 20 or 21 Belltane April 30 or May 1 Midsummer June 31 or August 1 Lammas July 31 or August 1 Mabon September 20 or 21 Modern wiccans live like everyone else except that they have a room specifically for their religion. They usually have an alter and their magical tools. The tools usually consist of: Wand- used for directing energy Cup- acts as a magical containment area for herbs, oils, or dreams. The cups purpose is to gather, hold, and disperse energy. Athame- a double-edged blade with a black handle and is used in a similar fashion as the wand. Pentacle- is a star and works as a manifestation device. There are two types of pentacles the working pentacle is a circular piece of wood or paper that’s white on one side and black on the other. They use this to give magical energies in physical form. The second one is the ritual pentacle that is a personal talisman that’s made from copper or silver. Hopefully this short explanation has given you a little insight into a very wonderful and colorful region. The most important message here is that witchcraft ion not something strange and unreal or something to be feared but is a beautiful example of human nature embracing the natural world with open arms and hearts. |
