Personal Impressions: Act 4 Scene 1: Danielle Martinez What I came to think in scene 1, Tituba was the one who had a great, if not one of the most important influences in the whole "witch" trials. She was the one who was a "voodoo believer" since she was a black slave. That seemed to be what the girls were practicing in the woods, and Tituba was the "leader" of their "ceremony". Abigail took Titiuba's "religion" and used it to create "witchcraft" in the town. Scene2: Amy Lerch In this scene, I became frustrated to see how Danforth wouldn't stop the hangings. It looked like he was taking advantage of his power, and no one can do anything to stop him. I feel sorry for all those who have been, and are to be hanged for all the false accusations made against them. Scene 3: Danielle Martinez I feel that in this scene you can see how Reverend Hale has finally realized how out of control this situation had gotten. He sees how ridiculous and wrong he has been judging all the people in the town. He realizes that what is happening in Salem is wrong and he can't do anything to change the others' (such as Danforths) minds about witches in the town. He got in to deep in the mess made and can't convince everyone that there aren't really any witches in Salem at all. Scene 4: Danielle Martinez I felt very sorry for the Proctors. You can see how innocent John was, and how hard it was for him to decide to lie to save his life, or die for the truth. I hoped he would lie (like Reverend Hale even told him to do). I thought he should just save his life by lying, so he could stay alive for his wife, Elizabeth. I also was also able to see how he regretted having an affair with Abigail. I could then tell it was her that had caused all this mess, probably in attempt to get back at John, or to get him back for good. Scene 5:Amy Lerch I was very surprised to see that John wanted to lie to save his life. It looked as though he was almost free until he suddenly refused to sign his name and was sent to the gallows. I was also surprised that Elizabeth seemed content with his decision. Even though I was surprised and slightly disappointed with the ending, I was glad to see that John made the right choice and died for the truth and I felt he died with a clear conscience and with honor. It was a bittersweet ending to me. |
