This is the aerial view of the Jordan Valley that Moses
and Joshua might have seen on top of Mount Nebo.
Jordan is the most famous river in the Bible
At the time of Spring the currents in the river Jordan can be very swift and crossing on foot is not only dangerous but almost impossible. Only God can open the way.
This scene (left) from the movie “JESUS” was shot in the Jordan River. This is the most watched movie in the world. Many believers have been baptized in this mode in the Jordan River.
The photograph on the right shows the official and popular baptismal site on the Jordan River.
Joshua
is a
Type
of
the
Lord
Jesus
Christ
Joshua in the Old Testament is a type of the
Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
The Hebrew name “Joshua” has the meaning “Yahweh is Savior” which is similar to the international version of the name “JESUS” (Mt.
Just like Joshua who was a successor of Moses and brought the Children of
Israel into the Promised Land, the Lord Jesus Christ can bring Christians into
perfection by His sacrificial death on the Cross (Heb. 10:14).
“For the law was given through Moses, but grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (Jn. 1:17).
Although “the law was given
through Moses” yet he could not enter the Promised Land because he did not
believe God’s word by striking the rock twice instead of speaking to it. In the same way no one can be justified by
only keeping the law and not believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“knowing that a man is
not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we
have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ
and not by works of the law, for by works of the law no flesh shall be
justified.” (Gal. 2:16)
“For by grace you have
been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Eph.
2:8-9)
God’s
Assurance and
Encouragement to Joshua
It is a
great challenge for anyone to be the successor of Moses, let alone to lead more
than two million people into a strange new land and conquering it. Without God it is not only frightening but
actually impossible to accomplish. “For with
God nothing will be impossible” (Lk.
5 No man shall be able to
stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be
with you. I will not leave you nor
forsake you.
6 Be strong and of good
courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I
swore to their fathers to give them.
7 Only be strong and very
courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My
servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left,
that you may prosper wherever you go.
8 This Book of the Law
shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night,
that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you
will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of
good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with
you wherever you go."

2 So it was, after three days, that the officers
went through the camp;
3 and they commanded the people, saying,
"When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the
priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go
after it.
4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it,
about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it,
that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed
this way before.
