God's Blessings at Creation
To most
people blessing means happiness, good health and abundance of wealth. This is the worldview of blessing and we
find that in real life this kind of blessing is only transient. True and lasting blessing comes only from
God who loves and redeems us so that we can have eternal life and be in heaven
with Him. Our Heavenly Father is the
source of all blessings. By His divine
will we receive the bounty of his goodness; all the spiritual possessions are
mere tokens of our heavenly inheritance. As we
meditate on God’s blessings, we realize how important it is to be always in His
presence, to do His holy will and continue to receive His blessings.
Everything
that comes from God is a blessing because we are filled with His grace
constantly. When God blesses our lives then all things are under His watchful
eye and guidance. To seek God's blessing is to seek His care for us and that He
will preserve us from falling into evil.
The Holy
Bible describes God’s blessings at Creation.
It was at the moment of satisfaction, the moment of triumph and joy that
God blessed his Creation. At the end of each day when he finished His work,
“then God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good,” (Gen.
1:31).
Blessings
of the Family
Three
blessings are mentioned in God’s Creation of the Universe. After creating the living creatures that
were on the land, sea and in the air, God “blessed
them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and
let birds multiply on the earth.” (Gen. 1:22) God gave this blessing on the fifth day of Creation. On the sixth day “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according
to our likeness; . . . So God created man in His own image; in the image of God
He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God
said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; . . . .”
(Gen. 1:26-28) This is the second blessing. Following each blessing God said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply.”
Something profoundly important is
revealed in God’s blessing to all His creatures that is related to the family
concept.
This
original blessing is linked to a precise plan of God, which His word
proclaimed "It is not good that man should be
alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him" (Gen 2: 18). So it is
that in the very beginning of man’s existence God had directed His blessing to
the marital union of man and woman and the family that results from it. Human beings were not created for solitude;
they bear within themselves a relational vocation, rooted in their spiritual
nature. Because of this vocation, they
grow to the extent that they enter into relationships with others of the
opposite gender to establish families.
God’s
mandate for the home is “be fruitful and multiply and fill the
earth.” The Psalmist
declares the blessings of children.
“Behold,
children are a heritage from the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are
the children of one's youth. Happy is
the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall
speak with their enemies in the gate.” (Psm. 127:3-5)
God’s
Spiritual Family
For
the unmarried and those without children of the flesh God has provided a
spiritual family for all believers through faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ. The truth is that God looks at
His divine family even more importantly than the earthly families of the flesh
that do not know Him.
“But as many as received
Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who
believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man, but of God.” (Jn. 1:12-13)
“Then His brothers and His
mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him. And a multitude was sitting around Him; and
they said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside seeking
You." But He answered them,
saying, "Who is My mother, or My brothers?" And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and
said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of
God is My brother and My sister and mother." (Mk. 3:31-35)
“For you are all children of
God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (Gal. 3:26)
The
believer in the Lord Jesus Christ expands God’s blessing to
“be fruitful and multiply” through sharing the gospel with
others. Hence in the Great Commission
we are commanded to “Go into all the world and preach the
gospel to every creature.” (Mk. 16:15)
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is
named.” (Eph. 3:14-15)
