=====================================================================
I've
been lying here forever, waiting for Spike to come back. I locked the door and
I've been listening for screams of pain. But he didn't scream the last time, so
maybe I should go find out if he's okay?
Shit.
What if she stakes him? I know he thinks Angelus is protective of us, but would
he really do anything *after* the fact? I doubt it. I bet Darla knows he wouldn't.
And then I'd have to leave, get as far away as possible. Always wondering if
she's got minions after me. Always waiting for them to catch up with me.
Damn
it, where the fuck IS he?!
HOLY
SHIT I DID IT!
Well,
sort of, but whatever.
I
STILL DID IT!
I
walk up the stairs and I can practically *hear* his mind babble right now.
I go
into my room and grab a change of clothes before knocking on his door.
"Xander, you can stop babbling now and let me in."
I heard
him coming. Well, no, I didn't *hear* him. I... felt him? Something like that.
So I was waiting by the door when he spoke.
I
unlock the door, open it, pull him inside, push the door shut again and then
grab his head and attack his mouth. Yeah, still horny. Can't help it.
As
much as I-
I put
my hands on his chest and shove him away as hard as I can. He goes flying and
lands on the bed.
"Get
dressed," I command.
Oh.
Okay...
Trying
not to be hurt about the fact that he apparently doesn't want me right now.
"Did... everything go all right?" I ask, as I grab my jeans and pull
them on.
"Yes,
which is why you gotta go."
I
watch sadly as he pulls his trousers on. I change mine and I can't help but
stick my thumbs in his belt loops and pull him toward me.
"Why
is it that I just can't seem to stay away from you?"
Did I
just say that out loud?
I don't
know what to say to that. "I don't know, but ... I seem to have the same
problem with you," I reply with a shrug. "And the plan didn't work
perfectly, did it?"
"Yes
and no. Depends on what you call perfect?
"I
got her to give me another day. She said I could have one night with him."
I kiss him quickly and then let him go.
Oh this
is good. Wait. He. As in just him. "And me?" I ask. But I think I know
the answer. For some reason, I wasn't included in the agreement. But why?
"No,"
I answer, but see the disappointment on his face. "Well, not that *she*
knows about. I played it like she needed to prove to me that I'd get time with
him. Of course then, since her mate would be gone, she said she wanted *you*
downstairs, in her chambers tonight, undoubtedly as a fuck-toy. That's why you
have to leave."
"I....oh."
I turn and walk over to my closet. I pull on a black button-down and turn back
to him. "Spike... " And I don't know what to say. Thanks for risking
the entire plan by not making me go to her room? Thanks for not killing me?
Thanks for giving me a reason not to hate being a part of this clan? I just
don't know what to say that wouldn't end up sounding incredibly stupid.
"Don't
mention it. I want you to go to the club. Get a room and wait for us. I'll tell
Darla you were gone when I got up to your room, and then Angelus and I will
meet you at the club. You'll have to sneak out the window here, alright?"
"Yeah..."
I nod as I get my Dockers on. "Not the first time I've jumped out the
window and run off, rather than deal with her," I add with a shrug. And I
can't help myself, on my way past him I stop and kiss him again, just a small
way of saying thanks for looking out for me. I'll be more grateful later on
tonight.
"Xand,
one more thing!" I grab his arm before he jumps out the window. "Be
careful, there's a slayer in town. Don't feed on the way to the club. Angelus
and I'll bring something."
A
slayer, huh? Tempting but.. Naked Angelus and naked Spike are much more
tempting. Two things I don't want to miss. "Okay. Don't worry; I'll do the
sensible thing and run away if I happen to see her.
"I'll
leave a message with the bartender, letting you know which room I'm in," I
add. Then I jump out of the window and to the ground. I look around to make
sure no wandering servants or minions noticed. I don't see any. So I break into
a run, intending not to stop until I reach the club.
I watch
out the window until Xander's out of sight. I don't see any of The Bitch's
minions follow him. *That's* a relief. But I'm still worried and will be 'til
Angelus and I get to the club and find him there. Kid used to be a demon
magnet, and now that he's a demon I really hope he doesn't prove to be a slayer
magnet.
Not
just because he's a good shag, but also because Angelus would be ticked at me
for not protecting the boy. He really hasn't treated Harris all that badly,
compared to me 'n Dru. So I know I'd be in for some pain, if my little plan
ends up with his new childe getting staked.
But
right now, I gotta deal with Darla. And I'm really thrilled about seeing her a
*third* time today. Especially to give her news to make her even *more* bitchy
than usual.
No
use in delaying the inevitable, though. I walk down the stairs to her room. I
hope Angelus gets home soon. It'd only be a plus if he walked in on her in one
of her rages. That would be one more thing to prove she's out to get me and
Xander both.
I
wait, hoping to feel him getting nearer. No luck. Oh, well. I take a deep
breath, steeling myself for Her Bitchiness, and knock on the door.
Something
is definitely wrong. Does he think I'm stupid? Does he think that after a
thousand years of existence, that I've learned nothing?
Stupid
child.
Boy.
But
that's okay. In a day, it won't matter. I'll have washed my hands of all my
childe's arrogant bastards. Then, Angelus and I will finalize the plans for the
new wave of vampires and we'll own this town.
Hellmouth
and all.
Angelus
asked me why Atlanta, but I haven't told him yet.
The
Hellmouth is right under the Olympic stadium.
He
knocks on the door. And he's alone.
*This*
does not please.
"Enter,
William."
I walk
in and one good thing about being a demon is that we don't sweat. So at least
she doesn't have that proof that I'm a little nervous. Of course she can
probably sense it.
But I
don't care. She can throw a fit, try to stake me, whatever. I'm not sorry I got
Harris away from her for the night. I'm territorial about the people - or
vamps, as the case may be - that I like. And I sure as hell don't wanna share
him with *her*.
"He
was gone when I got there," I shrug. "Dunno why. He's more than a
little unpredictable, I've noticed. Maybe he just got hungry and didn't wanna
wait for me? You should probably send some minions out to look for him. Don't
think Angelus would like it if his new toy got dusted by the slayer."
Now I
didn't *want* to suggest the minions. But I don't want to seem too eager to
look out for him, myself. Not William the Bloody. I've got permission to spend
the night with my sire, and I'm a selfish bastard. I wouldn't want to waste
time looking for a kid I'm gonna dust tomorrow.
WHAT?!
I
turn and in a flash I've got him pinned against the wall, his wrists in my
fists, above his head.
"You
mean to tell me that you let your mark out of your sight?" I growl and
gnash my teeth. I cannot STAND stupidity!
"Bloody
hell, I'm sorry. But how was I to know he'd disappear before I got back up to
his room? He'll be back, as long as he doesn't run into the sharp end of a
stake," I reply with a roll of my eyes. "And when I see him tomorrow,
I'll dust him, as promised.
"But
really, does it matter if he *does* get staked by the slayer?" I ask.
"Seems to me that Angelus will blame *me* for that, for not looking out
for him. And that's in your best interests," I point out.
Little
bastard!
Thought
he could really get away with this!
"Fine,"
I say. "I'll send the minions after the boy. They'll ensure the slayer
gets to him. *And* since you won't be doing him in, then the deal is off."
I
take him by the wrists and fling him onto my bed. "And, now that I've lost
my diversion for the evening, *you* will be taking his place."
"Hey,"
I say, pushing her off me and rolling away from her and to my feet. "Not
my fault he ran off. In my opinion, *your* minions should be paying more
attention to the perimeter of the house. If the whelp can get out so easily,
who or what might be able to get in?" I ask.
"Blaming
*me* now? Do you really think that's wise, William?"
Okay.
I can deal with both these little runts of Angelus'.
"I'm
blaming the minions," I say. "Not you. It's no more *your* fault than
it is mine. There are vampires on this property whose job is to protect the
dumber fledglings. Sounds like they're not doing their job, is all." And
where the fuck is Angelus? Stupid pouf taking his time, when I could use backup
here.
"NO.
*You're* not doing *your* job!" I growl at him as I advance.
"Had
you been doing the job instead of doing *it*, then it'd be dead by now!
Instead, you had to FUCK it! I NEED IT GONE, WILLIAM! THAT'S WHY YOU'RE HERE!
THAT'S WHY I GOT THAT CHIP OUT! Don't make me regret that!"
"Fucking
HELL!" I'm mad. Really mad. She thinks just 'cause she got the chip out
she's my owner? Don't think so. "I do things *MY* way, Darla. I agreed to
do this, but you will not tell me HOW to do it. I'm a hundred and fucking
thirty years old and I KNOW what I'm doing here!"
"Oh!
You KNOW what you're doing here?" I snarl as I throw him into the wall.
"THEN WHY ISN'T XANDER DUST?!" I punch him hard as he stands up and
he falls to the ground. "If you *knew* what you were doing, then he'd be
*dead*!" I kick his gut. "Face it, *Spike*. You're not demon enough
to do it. Drusilla was right."
The
only reason I'm letting her lay a hand on me is part of me knows he'll be here
any minute. And I will not be caught by him with my hand around her throat.
"If you were half the demon you pretend to be, you'd have taken him out
yourself," I retort. "If you want a job done, and tell a bloke to do
it, let him fucking DO it without second guessing him all the bloody
time!" I scream. I do take a chance and kick her legs out from under her,
so I can scramble to the other side of the room. Shit, she broke a few ribs.
"If you weren't so
fucking *stupid*, William, I *would* leave it up to you." I walk over to
him and grab his hair, pulling him to his feet. "I *should* have dusted
you long ago. Perhaps when Xander is gone, I *will*." I throw his head
toward the floor and step away.
