“I wouldn’t count on that B.” Buffy immediately vamped out but Angel grabbed her before she could turn. She looked into his eyes and shifted once more before turning around. “Surprised to see you here thought. Wouldda thought you’d have found some other beefcake by now. Guess it’s my lucky day.”

      “Faith....” Angel started.

“Relax, I’m leaving. Just thought I’d say thanks, it’s been real.” Faith walked further into the room and met Spike’s gaze. She looked familiar, too familiar. He knew she was a slayer and wondered how much she knew. “William the Bloody with a chip is his head, Council’d go crazy over that, wouldn’t they B?”

“What do you want? Come to steal someone’s body?” Spike leaned against the wall and watched as the two slayers circled each other. He wanted to whisk Buffy away, but his sire didn’t move, so neither did he.

“Sounds like fun B, but gosh I did that last time.”

Buffy watched her dark haired opponent. She could hear her blood pumping, she could smell the adrenaline, she wanted to smell fear. It was all she could do from vamping on the spot, but she fought off the urge, she was waiting for the perfect moment. She circled Faith, watching as Angel and Spike came in and out of view. This was her fight. They wouldn’t intercede. Good.

“What’sa matter B? Cat got your tongue? Or is it a soldier boy? They had your tongue a few times, in a few different places.” Buffy could hear a low growl, two of them, she could separate her two lovers growls now. She heard them separately. The air around her was jumping with energy. She closed her eyes for a second and it soaked into her skin and she felt warmer than she had in a few months.

“How do you know I didn’t have just as much fun in your body, Faith?”

“Come on, B, you don’t have the guts. Wouldn’t wanna ruin that perfect reputation, would you? Not that fucking a vampire hadn’t already ruined it, but you always did live in your own little world.”

“So why did you want my life? If it was so messed up, why take it? Was it funny? When you were in *my* house with *my* mother pretending to be *me*, did you laugh about it?”

“No, I was too busy reading your diary. I especially liked the part about Xander, that was a nice dream, but he’s not nearly as good, not bad though, but soldier boys were *much* better.” Buffy jumped up and sent a hard kick into Faith’s gut that sent her flying across the office ten feet. “DAMN B! You’ve been working out.”

“You could say that.” She let her human mask slip away as she watched the change in Faith’s eyes. But what she saw was not fear, not horror, but pity.

“I’m sorry B.” Faith stood up and ran out of the office into the daylight.

Buffy slowly turned around, beautiful yellow eyes staring at both him and their sire. “DAMN that felt good. I gotta kick her ass more often.” He could tell she was disappointed and he wondered if she was more disappointed that she had not fought as much as she’d liked or because Faith had not been afraid.

THAT EVENING

“PAIN KILLERS!” Buffy grabbed the bottle quickly and ran into Angel’s office, while Spike grabbed the water. “Gosh, will these things ever stop? Could you at *least* tell the PTB to-”

“Cordelia! The vision?” Angel interrupted. Her banter was getting out of control.

“An ally behind the big fish market, ugly hairy demon.”

“I’m gone.” Angel said as he started for the door.

“You may want the fightin’ axe Angel, and perhaps another supernatural friend.”

“Come on Spike, we’re going demon hunting.” Her two lovers left and she watched Cordelia lay down on the couch with a compress on her head.

      “How bad do they hurt?”

“Tons. Some worse than others. So tell me something fun, who’s a better lay? Spike or Angel?”

      “Both.”

“GET OUT GIRL! YOU TAKE ‘EM BOTH?” Cordelia shot upright and started at her with wide eyes.

      “Oh yeah.”

      “What’s that like?”

      “Amazing.”

      “How does it work?”

      “Whaddya mean?”

      “Where do they go?”

“Depends on the mood, lately Spike’s be... you don’t wanna hear this.”

“Sure I do. I’m not getting any as of late; I may as well get some vicarious sex. It’ll at least give me good dreams.”

“Spike takes front and Angel takes back.”

      “OH MY GOD! BUFFY SUMMERS!

A COUPLE HOURS LATER

She walked downstairs after locking up. They’d been in Los Angeles less than a week and things seemed to be going well. Cordelia had changed a lot, but was still very Cordelia-esque. They’d talked a lot about her relations with both Spike and Angel and the months leading up to her decision and after the change. She felt pretty good about the move. She walked downstairs and shut the office lights off. She got downstairs and felt a presence. “Who’s there?” She spoke into the darkness of the apartment.

“Why’d you do it B?” Buffy flicked the lamp beside the couch on and Faith was sitting in the chair facing her.

      “Didn’t Angel tell you?”

“Are you kidding? He never talked about you, ever. Not even when I asked how you were.”

      “Like you cared.”

“I did. I do. I’m sorry B, for everything. Our first meeting didn’t go as I’d planned. I could feel it.”

      “What?”

“How much you hate me. I understand, I hated myself for so long, but Angel helped me with that. He’s the only one who truly understands.”

“I do.” Buffy said sitting on the couch facing the chair Faith was sitting in.

      “What happened B?”

“Well, before you woke up, Angel temporarily lost his soul to a drug that induces pure happiness. I showed up here to talk and it was Angelus. Make a long story short, he raped me, I lost my mind, we went back to Sunnydale where I tortured a guy who done me wrong. Angelus and Spike killed the guy and tortured my then sort of boyfriend. Angelus stopped taking the pills for me and Angel left again cause we knew how dangerous we were together.”

      “Nobody deserves that B.”

      “What?”

“To be raped.” She saw the look in Faith’s eyes. “My step-father... he... never mind. Tell me the rest.”

“I tried to kill myself one night and Spike saved my life. We became friends; he helped me realize I needed to be with Angel. I found this book that talked about slayers who were turned. It said they all retained their souls, cause the slayer’s soul is the most pure, and no demon can overcome it. So I called Angel and asked him to change me.”

      “God B, why?”

“Because it’s what I wanted. It’s been hard, but I’m learning. Somewhere in the middle of it Spike and I fell in love.”

      “And Angel’s okay with that?”

“Angel’s been picking up his relationship with Spike as well.”

“Wow, a ménage a trois, never thought you had it in ya B.”

“Needless to say, I have my soul, so rest assured you won’t need to stake me.”

      “Well, that’s funny.”

      “Why?”

Faith took a stake out of her pocket. “Cause I was getting something to eat this morning when these three guys came up to me, Council guys.”

      “Oh.”

“Anyway, they said they knew I’d be gettin’ out early for good behavior and I had a couple of options. I guess the Council is still pretty mad about that whole ascension thing, plus they’re mad cause they couldn’t get me the last time they tried. SO, they said I had a couple options, one was to go with them, which is clearly not my first choice. The other was that all would be forgotten, I would be disavowed and would be free, so long as I stayed out of human trouble in the future.”

      “In exchange for what?”

“For your dust.” She looked at Faith; they both sat staring at each other for a while.

“If you came looking for a fight, you’ll get it, but I can guarantee I’ll win Faith.”

“Well the way I see it, is that I can fight you and die or I can go with them and die, cause honestly I don’t think I could beat your slayer and vamp strength. So either way I’m toast, or I can ignore them and maybe they’ll go away.”

“I doubt it, they have this annoying habit of sticking around where you don’t want them to.”

      “So true.”

“So what are you gonna to do?” Buffy asked her. Faith looked at her, smiled and broke the stake in two.

“I figure I’ll see what option three is.”

“Sure you wanna do that? Never know if I’m lying or not.”

“Sure I do, B. You can’t kill me, so what good is fighting? And I’m sure as hell not gonna kill you, not after that kick.”

“Bringing my personal life into a fight always makes me mad.”

“B, I really want you to know that I’m sorry. You were the one person that really tried with me. I guess I never really could fit into your little gang, so it was just easier to get mad and leave.”

“To be the one to leave, instead of the one left.”

      “Something like that.”

“So you said you were leaving?”

“I was going to, before the Council showed up, but now I can’t.”

      “Why?”

“Cause I hear there’s a new slayer on her way.”

“She’s coming?” Buffy said sensing a presence behind her she turned.

“I’m here, Vampire.” The new slayer was standing with a crossbow in one hand and a gun in the other. “Let’s do it.”

“Think you can stop me?” Buffy said. “Think you can win?” She afraid to stand for fear of the arrow. She had to catch the girl off guard so she could get around the couch.

      “Oh yeah.”

“Don’t be so sure.” Faith said, standing up.

“I take it you’re Faith, the rogue slayer I’ve been warned about, wanted for murder if I’m not mistaken. You were given your chance.”

“Yeah and what are you gonna do about it? Gonna shoot me?”

“Don’t tempt me. Council doesn’t care if you live or die.”

“Do you?” Faith slowly approached the girl with that badass attitude of hers. “You kill me and you kill a human. You willing to become a murderer for the Council?”

“Don’t come any closer. I’m here to rid the world of *vampires*, you get in my way and we’ll find out.”

“Then let’s find out. Shoot.” Faith shrugged. “Do it. Kill me. I’m giving you an open invitation.” The girl was shaking; Buffy could smell the slightest tinge of fear, lacing the air as Faith approached her.

“Stay back.” The girl’s hand was shaking. “I’m warning you.” Just then Faith kicked the gun out of her hand.

“Guess we’re not as tough as we thought we were.” Buffy wasn’t sure what Faith was doing. She was standing in front of the crossbow and Buffy stood up from the couch

“Don’t think I planned for that?” The girl pulled another gun out of her pocket and fired off a shot that grazed Faith’s arm.

“You bitch! That was my only shirt!” Faith said while punching the girl.

“It doesn’t have to be like this Faith.” The girl said

“No? What, is the Council just gonna gimme a watcher and let me go somewhere else? I don’t think so.”

“Fighting me is only gonna make it worse.”

“Don’t you think that coming to a vampire’s lair is really quite stupid B?” Faith asked over her shoulder.

“I was thinking about that too.”

“And especially a vampire they need to hire extra help to kill. I mean, they wouldda never sent you or me after such a vampire. What do you think that means? I wonder if they already got another slayer called yet.”

“They sent me here to kill her, that’s all.”

“Then you didn’t count on us, did you cutie?” Spike said from behind the girl. “Really think you can take on two slayers and two vampires?”

The girl backed up slightly to keep them all in her sight. “Do you *really* count as a vampire when you can’t bite?”

“She’s like you slayer, only not as smart. Quick on her feet though.” One kick from Spike sent the crossbow and gun flying out of her hand to the other side of the apartment. “But not quick enough.” Buffy could smell her fear now, the mix of fear and adrenaline. “Can you smell it Buffy? *That’s* what genuine fear smells likes. Intoxicating, isn’t it? You have to admit it Peaches, you have missed it. I can see it in your eyes. Wonder if this slayer would be as good as ours?”

“Don’t even think about it boy.” Angel spoke approaching Buffy.

“So what do we now?” Faith asked. “Break bones? Slice her wrists? Scar her for life? I mean we can’t just let her leave.”

“That’s precisely what we’re going to do Faith.” Angel said.

“WHAT? You want her hunting B? Want her coming after your children Angel? Cause that’s what’s gonna happen.”

“We kill her and we just prove the Council right. We give them a reason to send the special teams after us until Buffy’s dust. Do you really wanna kill her Faith? After all the progress you made? After starting to fix the problems you caused? Is that what you wanna do?”

“Uh, Peaches? Hate to admit it but I have to agree with the rogue on this one. They’ll come after us all.”

“And they’ll come after us worse if we give them a reason to. We’re playing right into their hands.” He approached the girl who was still shaking in fear. No doubt she’d read the books about him, about his minds games. She was probably wondering if he was playing one now. He took her by the shoulders and pushed her into the wall behind her, pinning her there. He let his human visage melt away and the girl gasped. Spike was right, he *did* miss it. TOO much.

“You tell the Council,” he said pushing her hair away from her neck, “that I *don’t* take kindly to people hunting my childer.” He licked her sweet neck just above the pulsing vein. He could practically taste her blood, feel it running through him. He felt Buffy’s inside him, the power it held. He’d drank her life and felt stronger afterward. “If you, or anyone one of them, come looking for anyone in this room again, you won’t be leaving. Know *that* little girl, if nothing else. I am stronger than any you’ll ever face, by myself. You think you’ve heard stories about what I did,” he whispered, “you don’t know the half of it.”

“Council only knew what the evidence suggested, if they could *find* evidence.” He knew he shouldn’t, he knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t help but open his mouth and scrape his fangs along her tender skin, thus driving his point home. The girl was shaking so bad he couldn’t even hold her steady against the wall. He looked at her face and allowed his human features to descend upon his face. “You tell your bosses *that* and if they still want a fight, they’ll get one, but we’re all on the same team here. We stay here, you stay in Sunnydale and it’ll work out fine.” He let her go and she struggled to keep her footing. “Now GO before I change my mind.” The girl bolted up the stairs leaving the crossbow and guns behind.

“And *that* ladies and gents is what *your* sire can do for you.” Spike said chuckling to himself. “Quite a show Peaches. How’d she taste?”

“Didn’t actually break the skin. Buffy, are you okay?”

“I’m good. I was actually thinking about going out patrolling.” She turned to Faith. “What are you gonna do now?”

“I guess I’ll leave. I got nothin’ else to do. Just wanted to tell Angel thanks, for everything.”

“You’re welcome Faith. Just remember to make good decisions this time around.”

“One thing’s for sure, I’m NOT going to fall in love with a vampire and let him kill me, that’s just stupid.” She winked at Buffy and two girls laughed silently.

“Wouldn’t be so sure about that pet.” Spike said, grabbing the girl around the waist and pressed into her from behind. Angel growled loudly. “Sorry mate.” Spike let go and flopped on the couch, slightly disappointed.

“You know, Faith, you’re more than welcome to stick around, and dare I say help.” Angel said. That could be interesting, *very* interesting. Spike waited for her answer.

“I don’t think you’re employees would be too happy to have me hangin’ around, so I think I’m gonna go.”

      “Where?” Buffy asked.

“I was thinking I’d go home to Boston, maybe slay some demons. I don’t know for sure. But I do think I’m gonna go.”

      “Okay, when?”

“Sooner the better I think.” Faith started for the door.

“Wait!” Buffy called and ran after her. “Since it’s after dark and all, I’ll walk you.” He watched as the two slayers left, leaving him and Angel behind.

“So, what do we do n-” Angel grabbed him and yanked him into the bedroom.

AN HOUR LATER

      “Here it comes.”

“Yup. I guess this is goodbye then.” Buffy said as she and Faith stood up.

“I guess so.” Faith walked to the platform. “Listen, B, I *am* sorry about everything. I hope we’ve buried the hatchet. I’d hate to leave on bad terms like before.”

“I believe you. We’ve both done things we regret. I...” she grabbed Faith before she knew what she doing and they shared a hug as the train pulled in.

“Take care of yourself B, don’t get dead.”

“Scouts honor, and you do the same.”

      “G’bye B.”

“Bye Faith. Sisters to then end, right?”

“You got it B, til my last breath.”

Faith began to board the train, “Hey Faith!” She turned and looked back. “You gonna be okay?”

Faith flashed her a big smile, “FIVE BY FIVE!” She shouted as she jumped up the other stairs. Buffy watched as Faith took her seat and waved goodbye as the train pulled away. With that, Faith, her old friend was gone, the memories of her sister instilled in her mind, for eternity.

Faith was gone. One more thing from her life, gone, like her breath. She stood and watched until the train was completely out of sight. The platform was empty as it was past midnight. She began walking toward the stairs when she heard faint crying. She walked closer to the sound which got louder as she neared a trash can at the end of the platform. She peered inside to find a small child wrapped in a blanket.

“Hi, don’t cry, please don’t cry.” She whispered as she picked the child up. “It’s gonna be okay, Mommy’s here, shhh, Mommy’s here.”
