PART 9 (PG - Getting Answers)

She walked to the boardwalk and looked out at the water. She turned around and looked at the doorway covered in ivy. It all looked so familiar. She closed her eyes and saw Angel walking through it, in the light! She opened her eyes. She walked to the sand and sat down.

“Okay baby... Angel is your daddy? How can that be?” It wasn’t possible, he couldn’t have children, how could he? For all intent and purposes, he was dead. The Oracles... where had he said the Oracles were? Maybe she could go there and ask them in person, she had to call Cordelia and see if she knew where to go.

“Angel Investigations, we help the hopeless, can I help you?”

            “Cordelia, don’t say my name.”

“Okay, is there something I can do for you ma’am?”

“Where are the Oracles? Do you know?”

“Yes, I understand, but that problem is more for the police.”

            “The police?”

“Well, ma’am, the police station is right across from the *Post Office*, and there’s a subway tunnel near there you can use, just go right down into the subway and once you get to that station, you’ll see a *tunnel*, just follow the tunnel and come up the stairs and you’ll see the Police Station.”

“So I go to the Post Office and go down into the subway and look for a long tunnel?”

“Yes that’s correct. And ma’am I am sorry that *gift* you were *bringing* to your niece was stolen, I hope you find it in time for the party.”

“A gift, I need to take a gift? This is really hard to get... how do I get in once I’m there?”

“Yes ma’am there’s also a vendor there is you get lost, a vendor who sells drinks and next to him there’s a guy who sells *sand* sculptures, or maybe he’s in the subway tunnel, I’m not sure, but if you ask him for *access* to the station, he’ll let you in, oh and also look for the *fire* station, it’s around there.”

“I have to use some sand and fire and ask for access to the Oracles?”

“Yep, you got it... have a nice day and be careful and if there’s anything else you need, just call us, we’ll be glad to help.

“Thanks Cordy, you’re the best, and don’t tell Angel.”

She walked down the tunnel, she had sand and she had a gift for them. She was anxious to meet them. She put the sand in the pot, she figured it was a good place to start. She saw the torches lit around the room and took one. “What the hell do I do with this?” She took out the gift and the paper she had written Cordy’s hints on and tried to read it. “Okay, let’s see, shit!” She dropped the torch into the pot and a fire spurt out. “Okay... now what? I want access to the Oracles!” Nothing happened. “I said I want access to the all powerful Oracles!” Then she saw a door open, filled with light and she went inside.

            “Cordelia, who was that?”

“No one, just a lady she was mugged, didn’t sound extraordinary so I sent her to the cops.”

“Oh, it’s getting late, do you think I should worry about Buffy? I mean, I looked for her I couldn’t find her anywhere. She shouldn’t be out there like this, pregnant, angry, scared...”

“Angel, she probably just needs some time, I’d let her be.”

            “I’m going to look again.”

“Okay.” He got the distinct feeling that she wasn’t telling him something. He walked out the door when suddenly he was attacked from behind, by three big guys, although he didn’t get a good look at them, he was knocked out and dragged away.

“Come in valiant warrior, not what we were expecting, but...”

            “You are the Oracles?”

“We are. What do you wish of us?”

“What do I wish of you? I wish you to tell me what the heck is happening to me? Is Angel the baby’s father?”

“Do not ask questions you already have answers for.”

“See I don’t have answers for it.”

“Yes you do warrior. What else do you wish of us?”

            “Do I wish of you?”

“Yes.” The male walked toward her. “We are here to serve you as a valiant warrior, that which we serve and that which you serve hath created pure warriors.”

            “What are you saying?”

The female walked to her and bowed in front of her. “What do you wish?”

“Are you saying that I order you around?”

She stood up offended. “I am saying, as was said before, what do you wish?”

“I wish you make Angel human so we can be together.”

“Such wishes are foolish and cannot be granted. Tell me something real.”

            “But that’s what I want.”

“It cannot be done, what was done once cannot be done again and what was done cannot be undone and what has not yet been done cannot be foretold.”

“What do you mean what was done? Was he human? He is the father? How can that be? When? This isn’t possible, we weren’t together...”

“Oh but you were.” He said. “Your dreams are not dreams, dear warrior, they are memories, created from your deep love of the lower being.”

“HEY! He’s not a lower being, watch it...”

The female walked to her, “The day was to be erased, forgotten, but you remember, and as your love and connection did retain hidden memory, so did your body.”

“So what do I do now? Can you make his soul permanent?”

“We cannot do that nor can we tell of the future... what you wish is impossible.”

“So if you say ‘what do you wish?’ and can’t grant any of my wishes anyway, what good are you?”

“We cannot grant wishes, only the Powers That Be can, only they have the power to do such things, your wishes need to be addressed to them.”

            “So where are they?”

“The Powers don’t bow before a warrior, they have other causes to attend to, hunger, famine, diseases, good and evil, they will not entertain such childish whims. You wanted answers and have gotten enough for now. Be gone!” She flew into the first room and the fire was out, she walked back up to the road and back to Angel’s. Outside the door to the building, she was attacked, she tried to fight back, but they were strong, she was knocked out.

When she came to, she was in a room and there were two what appeared to be vampires standing at her side. She was tied to a chair. It was dark, she couldn’t see very well, someone was in the room with her. “Who’s there?”

            “Hello cutie!”

PART 10 (R - Past Indiscretions)

            “Spike?!”

“Good guess, you’ve been out for an hour or so, but it’s okay, I’m relatively patient, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time...”

“What the hell is going on?” He lit a match and held it to his face as he got closer to her. She saw his face, he was vamped out, ready for war.

“Well, you see...” he proceeded to walk around the room lighting candles. “I thought these would be a nice effect for your reunion, anyway, you see I found this guy, actually he found me, a leak in the system of commandos, as you know I’m a hostile. Anyway, he said he could fix me, said he was mad because they’d fired him, so he fixed me, sadly he’s dead now, I had to try it out on someone. So I said to myself, ‘Self, what do I want more than anything?’ and you know...”

“Spike, how can you do this? After all we helped you... you stab us in the back like this?”

“Hey, I told you I hated you, I still do, only I don’t want to kill you.”

“So what do you want? And what reunion?”

“Your reunion with him... you know what I want more than anything? Well, besides my Dru back, I want to make you two pay for taking Dru away...”

“We didn’t...” he jumped in front of her growling.

“Don’t interrupt me! I’m telling my story! What I want is to make you pay, and the best way to do that is... well you’ll see, first off, I’m going to check on lover boy.” He walked out and in a minute, returned with two other vampires dragging in Angel.

            “ANGEL!”

“BUFFY!” He ran over to her, hands chained behind his back.

“Isn’t this touching! It’s almost like old times eh? Only then, he was evil and he took Dru and you made him revert to Angelus, so you both need to pay, but first I thought we could sit.”

            “Buffy are you okay?”

            “Yes, I’m fine...”

            “Boss?”

“WHAT?” A vampire appeared in the doorway.

“Boss, we uh, have a problem outside, they want their money...”

“Oh right, well,” he turned to his prisoners, “Well, you two behave, and remember you can’t escape, the door will be locked, have fun! Though from the looks of her, fun is inevitable.” Angel vamped out and growled, he lunged after Spike, but the guards took his down. “Now now, don’t want to scare the little lady, there’s already enough fear, can’t you smell it Angel?” Spike walked to Buffy and put his hands on her face, “I mean look at her, such anger in her eyes, you must have been a very bad boy, you always like when Dru would punish you for it, didn’t you? Buffy, did Angel ever tell you about Madrid? He was such a bad boy that year.”

            “Spike! Shut up!”

“Oh Angel, I don’t think you have any bargaining chips here, what’ll you do, bore me to death with tales of fighting for the greater good? Please... so did he tell you about Madrid? We must have had, what 20 men working for us, and a couple demons? We found this schoolhouse and we had fun didn’t we? Did you know Buffy that you can make a vampire and shag all at once? Angel was the first to try it on some little girl, must have been what 12 years old Angel?”

            “I’M WARNING YOU SPIKE!”

“Oh, again I don’t think you can really warn me of anything. Then there was the time with that little girl, remember in the woods? She was blond, like you Buffy and he grabbed her, she was five years old I think, and she was screaming and he...”

            “BOSS!”

            “WHAT?”

“You have to come deal with them.”

“I’ll be there in a minute.” Spike pushed her hair back. “Hold on, what do we have here little miss? A scar? What happened here?”

            “Nothing Spike.”

“Oh no, I think this is very much something. Looks like vampire marks, I’d know those anywhere, those are strong bite marks, big fangs. What happened?”

“What do you think? A vampire bit me, duh!”

“No no no, that’s not all it, I mean if it were that easy, I would have already, just walk up to you and do it, no, no normal vampire would be able to get that close... that means you must have trusted that vampire, and the only vampire I know of that you would trust, is our little Angel. So what? You were making out and he accidentally sunk his teeth in? That’s rich! I wonder if it was as good for you as it was for him.” He left and the door slammed behind him, the guards had gone too.

“What’s going on Willow, Angel never does this, he knows I’m waiting, he always calls so I can go home.”

            “Cordelia, calm down.”

“NO! This is Angel, he’s my friend and he’s helped me so much lately and I’m worried, he’s got a lot going on and if Buffy’s going to be mean again, he doesn’t need that.”

“Oh Buffy’s going to mean?! Angel is the one that left her!”

“Yeah because little Miss Perfect wanted a normal life...”

            “That’s not...”

“GIRLS!” They both looked at Wesley. “This is not helping neither Angel nor Buffy, both are missing, I wonder if they went back to Sunnydale.”

            “They would have called.”

“I suppose you’re right. So we wait here for them.”

PART 11 (R - Little Bites)

            “Are you okay Buffy?”

            “I’m fine, you?”

            “Yes. He didn’t hurt you?”

“Oh you mean did he hurt our baby? No, he doesn’t know about the baby.”

“Buffy don’t think about what he said.”

“About what? I could pick up any book of Giles’ on vampires and read about the horrible memories you live with everyday Angel. You don’t think we did a lot of reading when we found out what you are? We pulled an all-nighter in the library trying to figure out why you didn’t bit me. I know about this stuff, well not in such detail, but... I went to see the Oracles.”

            “What?”

“I went to see them. They are confusing. How is it that they always manage to answer your question without answering your question? Is that possible?”

“Yes, and they are, why’d you go?”

“Because someone knew how this baby got here and someone wasn’t telling me, so I decided to go see someone else who knew.”

            “So what’d they say?”

“They said what was done cannot be undone and was done once cannot be done again and what is to be done will not be foretold. Then they said that I had childish whims and that I shouldn’t ask for silly things like permanent souls or humanity... and they told me to get out.”

“So what’d they say about the baby?”

“Oh right, the day I’ll never remember, well they said that since our love is so strong, my mind can’t rid myself of the memories, they’ve been coming in the form of dreams... fantasies... they said since my mind can’t rid me of these, neither can my body... so basically what does Buffy have? A child from a vampire who won’t stick around longer than a couple months at a time, if that, and a couple pissed off Oracles, with a side of psycho Spike.”

“Buffy... this child is mine, and...”

“And what? Let’s hear it again, I’m not sure I understood you the first three hundred times... ‘it was for your own good Buffy... you’re the slayer and I’m a vampire...’ please, spare me the sad story, I’ve heard it enough times Angel, I know it by heart.”

“Buffy... I’m not going to walk away from my child.”

“Well, that’s the smartest thing you’ve every said to me.” The door rattled.

“Naked yet kids? Damn, too bad... but this is only the preshow. Now let’s talk a little about this suckfest shall we, call it sick curiosity, I mean, why not make her a vampire Angel? It *would* solve your love problems, you’d both be evil, could go on a killing spree.     It’d be fun.” He sat on Buffy’s lap and put his hand on her neck, rubbing her scar. “It’s so pretty, be prettier with a little blood dripping down... but what are you gonna do?”

            “GET YOU HANDS OFF HER!”

“Just my hands? Okay, I’ve got other body parts besides hands.”

            “GET AWAY FROM HER!”

He stood up and paced around the room. “Can you feel it Angel? The evil in the air tonight is giving me the chills... can you feel it? The air of menace, impending doom... ah... makes me so happy...”

“You know what Spike? You’re pissing me off! If you’re going to kill us, do it! If you’re gonna torture us, do it already, this is getting boring, it’s not like you. You know what? I think you’re chicken... you’re not going to do anything, you don’t have the... you don’t have the stones...”

“Yeah little Buff? I’ve got a whole bunch of stones... so I’d watch it.”

“So prove it already, untie me and fight me like a man.”

“You forget! I’m not a man Buffy!”

            “That’s right, you’re a joke!”

“Hey Buffy, maybe we shouldn’t goad him on... huh?”

“Why are we here? I don’t even think you bit anymore! That’s why you have the guards... not because you need them, but because you NEED them.”

He walked over to her, pushed her hair out of the way and leaned into her. “That was the wrong thing to say little girl.” He opened his mouth and bit down hard into her neck.

“BUFFY!” Angel jumped up but the guards knocked him down, he kicked and screamed, but his hands were chained behind him and he couldn’t stop it.

PART 12 (R - Poison)

He stopped, he didn’t want to but this wasn’t the plan. She needed to suffer too. He stood up and Angel breathed a sigh of relief.

“I wouldn’t be so happy mate... she will die... I’m just saving some for later. Let him go!” The guards did as he said and Angel ran over to Buffy and sank to his knees in front of her.

            “Buffy?”

“Yes... I’m okay, just a little woozy.”

            “Stay with me okay?”

“This is so funny! You bit her and you’re worried about me? Oh I plum forgot, I have something for you... call it a last supper.” He opened the door and a guard brought in a tray. “Buffy, I assume lasagna is good?”

            “Whatever, I’m starving.”

“Good, cause I just got this... nice place though, pity it’s not there anymore, and Angel I have something for you too.” He picked up a glass from the tray, it was red. Angel got paler than usual. “Relax, it’s pigs blood... I didn’t forget... you’ve got that thing against drinking human, although we all know you did once... I wish I could have been there and watched her fall... in any event, I’ll leave you two to enjoy your meal.” He started to leave.

“Hey Spike? I’m grateful and everything, but I can’t eat tied to a chair.” She said.

“Right...” he walked over to Angel and grabbed him by the throat and pulled out a knife.

            “NO!”

“Relax Blondie...” he motioned to one of the guards and he walked over to Buffy. “You make a move Angel here dies, the keys attached.” The guard unchained her and left the room, Spike took Angel with him toward the door and as he left threw Angel into the room and closed the door.

She ran over to him. She took the key and undid the chains. He grabbed her and hugged her. “What are we going to do Angel?”

“I don’t know, but you need to eat.” He looked down at her neck, “It’s healing pretty quick, it’d help if we had a bandage, but just keep pressure on it.”

“I’m fine, just hold me right now Angel.” She pulled him toward her without thinking where his head was.

He closed his eyes and she held onto him, he relaxed for a second and felt it touch his lips and he immediately pushed her away. “Angel?” She saw the blood on his lips, her blood. “Why don’t I get to that lasagna now, huh?”

“Good idea.” She sat down at the table.

“Hey! You mind taking your blood, it’s making me sick looking at it, he does have a sense of irony doesn’t  he, red for you and red for me... I hope the baby appreciates this nutrition.”

“Sorry.” He picked it up and turned away from her to drink it.

“You don’t have to be so antisocial Angel, it’s not like I don’t know how you drink it.” He turned around and looked at her. “Okay, he has to come back in here eventually... right, we can jump him then.”

“Yeah, and what? His guards’ll kill us.”

“Not if we take their leader, right? You grab him, we’ll break this chair for stakes, this is the new plan.”

            “The new plan?”

“Yeah, I’ve thrown out the other one, Rumania is not happening right now, the old plan’s main theme was happiness, the new one is survival.”

“Sounds like a place to start.” He put the empty glass down. “I feel funny.”

            “What do you mean?”

            “I don’t know... differ...”

“Angel?” He got up and banged on the door. It opened and Angel walked out and it closed behind her.

            “So!”

“What’d you do to me Spike?” Angel asked as Spike pushed him into a room.

“Let’s just say I did my research. Let me just leave you with this name, Raven.”
