Introduction:
No news is good news? ...this month, entry on the club message board has been a little sparse. Mary announced that she was having a Halloween party at the library and asked for craft ideas for her kids. AngelPie_Mouse professed a penchant for boxes. And Anny2Craft suggested it was time we start a chat session. For the most part, the club was quiet, too quiet, and the rather large snore suggests we may all be too busy with our craft projects to share. So, to fill this month's newsletter and to get us into the sharing spirit, I am going to share a Christmas idea with those of you who enjoy cross-stitch.
Ornaments made by hand are some of the most precious keepsakes we can give. Perhaps, we create them to send instead of Christmas cards or, perhaps, as an added decoration to a Christmas package. Cross-stitch ornaments are ideal for this purpose. They are easy to mail and offer a lasting memory for years to come.
I have mentioned the software program PatternMaker by Hobbyware before. Now, I am going to show you something that you can create with this software. The pattern below is one that comes with the software package as a sample. However, you can take any standard color bitmap image and create your own design using this program. You can scan an image as complicated as a photograph or as simple as a coloring book drawing. If you can digitize it, you can turn it into a cross-stitch pattern, and you can make it as complicated in size, colors, full-stitch or half-stitch, outlined or not as you want.
