Just to say..."I did it myself!"

Introduction:

This is the second edition of the Yahoo! Crafter's Place Chat Club Newsletter, a monthly publication. The newsletter is intended to report on topics discussed on the club message board, that is: to remind you of the matters we've talked about; to point out items and articles added to our website, which is a more appropriate venue for instructions and pictures than this newsletter can afford; to offer valuable links and information on software and websites; and to make formal welcome to our new members.

Welcome Members

I apologize for the tardiness of this month's newsletter. Caught between jury duty and a bout with influenza (very likely contracted while performing the former), I haven't been much in a crafting mood, a computer mood, or any sort of mood. But, it is time to get back on track now. Last newsletter, I posted the question: "what's your craft?" I also misspoke concerning the main interest of Anny2craft so it is now time to review.

Who's Who?

CyberRose07 loves paper crafts. Whether it is fancy stationary, decoupage, folded, spindled, stapled, or glued, she's into it. In the past month, she's offered us some interesting ideas for Autumn decorations, in particular, on cornhusk dolls and wreaths and some interesting ideas on creating your stationary.

Anny2craft is into many kinds of crafts. She writes: "I love doing all kinds of crafts. My main thing right now is decorative painting and I have started cutting my own wood. I think the next would be digitizing for my embroidery machine. (I'm even teaching that right now). I also do macramé with crochet thread. I love to do plastic canvas. I pour and paint plaster. I do crochet some and have even done some counted cross stitch. I love creating all kinds of crafts from the computer. I work with florals to make centerpieces using candles. I do a lot of recycled crafts, since I hate to see things going to waste. I do sew and have done hand embroidery. I also do a lot of general craft projects. There are so many things that I do - you wouldn't believe my craft room.

AngelPie_Mouse loves crafts. Self-confession time, if the word "craft" can be attached to it I've tried it. From beadwork and gilding lead buttons to woodcarving, cross-stitch and dressmaking to home repairs, I've pretty much tried it all (twice if I liked it). Unfortunately, that makes me a "jack of all crafts, master of none," but I've had a lot of fun and the efforts seem to please.

manndiee_69. "My favorite type of craft to make is swags and wreaths with silk flowers. However, I dabble in tons of other crafts, i.e.: decoupage, terra cotta crafts, beading, etc.) It just depends what I feel like at the time." [Post #0085, 09/01/99]

FreedomDeep. "Unfortunately I dont have a craft that I specialize in...you can call me new to the world of crafting. I have dabbled in a few things last Christmas, but that is it. I am taking my first rubber stamping class next Saturday. I have been meaning to take one for years!" [Post #0087, 09/02/99]

Other members of our club (who have yet to state a craft preference) include: Craftwiz_99 and DebSawyers.

All members are invited to offer up a thumbnail concerning what their particular craft talent (or earnest attempt) may be. We'll print in it right here.

Recruiting. You can add to the pool of knowledge we can all share in by inviting known craft addicts to join us. Remember our URLs are: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/craftersplace and http://www.geocities.com/PicketFence/Street/3400.

Over the past 30-plus days, we've sort of slacked off a bit. Speculation is that we've been so busy doing, we've forgotten to share what we are doing. But a couple of crafts discussed included: decoupage, cross-stitch, a Halloween costume project for kids, installing basement ceiling tiles and installing windows (well, these last two were mentioned anyway). There were no step-by-step instructions offered on these projects although I will attempt to glean some from postings to be found under the heading of Miscellaneous Crafts on our website.

On going Message Board projects: we are currently attempting to compile a list of tools and crafts with definitions, descriptions, and pictures to create our own Craft-o-pedia on our website. If you have material that should be included, please post it to the message board or send to: craftersplace@iname.com.

Another on-going project is the compilation of a listing of craft retailers, publications, mail order companies, and software. That's right, even if the store is only in your hometown, we'll put it on our list. Do you subscribe to a craft publication, journal, or newsletter? Send us the name, a brief description, and subscription information. Know a great source for paint brushes, chisels, pre-cut wood biscuits? Mail order companies, particular those on the Internet, are important to share. And, of course, if you know of any craft software, this is a must to tell us about. Please post it to the message board or send to: craftersplace@iname.com.

Would you like to be more involved in helping fellow crafters? We currently have an opening for someone to run an advice column on the homepage. Also needed, someone to do some web browsing on craft sites on the Internet. Apply in writing to angel-pie@geocities.com.
