Teacher Poems
Dear Teacher,
Today I turn some of my little girl's life over to you.
It is not easy for me because I held her so tight when she was newborn. I
taught her and she felt the love of her family.
But today a new chapter in her life begins; for a few hours I will not be
there to answer her questions, kiss her bruises, and to 'save her' from
life's little pains, but you will be there.
Be kind for she is small. She has so much to give and so much to learn.
So for those few hours when she is yours, remember: I held her tightly; I
share her dreams; I share her hopes.
Give her love and help her learn.
When the day is over please send her home unharmed.
Teachers
Teachers come and go
but every so often one comes along
that you'll always remember.
One who makes learning an adventure...
and who can still remember
what it's like to be young
and growing up...
The kind who can make you
want to be the very best you can be...
Someone you can really talk to, who really cares
what happens to you...
That person is YOU!
First Grade Teacher

I bet you've tied a million shoes
and dried a million tears
and given out a million hugs
as a teacher through the years.
In my child's life, the role that you've played
has been a priceless part
and you must know the special place
you hold in my child's heart.
Teacher's Prayer
James Metcalf
I wanted to teach my students how
To live this life on earth.
To face its struggles and its strife
And to improve their worth.
Not just the lesson in a book
Or how the rivers flow,
But how to choose the proper path
Wherever they may go.
To understand eternal truth
And know the right from wrong
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song.
For if I helped the world to grow
In wisdom and in grace
Then I feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.
And so I asked your guidance, God
That I have done my part
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.
A Teacher's Prayer
Harold H. LeCrone
A sculptor took a piece of clay
and molded perfectly
The figure of a little child,
so beautiful to see;
But when I held it in my hand,
no warmth of life was there
Its cold, unchangeless beauty
was all that it could share.
God sent a little child to me
that I might supervise
The teaching that would satisfy
the wonder in his eyes;
And when I took his little hand,
to guide him on his way,
I felt the warmth of trust and love
he shares with me each day.
"And so, dear God, I come to Thee,
in all humility,
To ask for wisdom, strength and love
that I may always be
The kind of teacher who can help,
in some kind, loving way,
To mold a better, stronger child
with every passing day."
