Cosmos Club was originally formed in 1966, In March of 1967, the name Cosmos Club was officially selected as the name. The majority of the original club were students of West Indian decent, who were here attending the University of British Columbia. The club's purpose was to participate in athletic, social, cultural, and educational activities, and to foster a spirit of goodwill and fellowship. By the late 1960's this club was one of to the top club's in the league. This lasted until the mid 70's when the club folded. In the late 70's the club emerged again with great players such as Carleton Chang, Ed Wallace, Wilkie Wong Moon (the longest serving player of Cosmos United), Trevor Young, Ralph Heldt, Mike Khan. Later came along Sahadeo Bharrat, Rabi Sahadeo, Courtney Mark, RJ Arjune, Benji Arjune, Junior Price, Bobby Pitamber, Jack Ramnuath, Kamal Osman and many others. This team moved up and down the divisions through the years, reaching the first division twice during this period. In 1995 the team folded for a second time, due to the lack of players. In the spring of 1998 our dear friend and mentor Trevor Young passed away from illness. In the summer of 1998, Junior Price passed away from illness. The team was once again resurected in 1999, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Cosmos United was reformed with a purpose and a vision. The team finished 16-1 in their first season back and moved up to the third division for the 2000 season. This version of team still has the veterans like Wilkie Wong Moon and Benji Arjune, with some new talented players like Jed Stevens and Safraz Hussain. |
