Speed is when you fly the plane REALLY FAST. These are the catergories; This page is currently under construction when it is finished it will contain photo's and more info.

When you see one of these planes flying you have to quickly find a tree to hide behind.

F2A is the world class speed event. The planes are very unusual in that they only have half a wing and half a tail. The planes use a 2.5cc engine with only one blade on the propeller. This allows the engine to rev much faster. These planes go very fast the world record being 301km/hr. The planes have one inboard wing which is made of aluminium, whilst flying you can see the wing bending with the force. The engines are equiped with a tuned pipe which extracts the exhaust and allows the engine to rev faster. I will have to get a photo to show these interesting planes.

Combined speed is broken up into 6 different classes. The winner of a combined speed competition is not the person with the fastest plane ( that would unfair as different engine sizes are used) It is the person who got the highest percetage of the record in that particular class. eg  if you get 200km/h in a class where the record is 300km/h that is a percentage of  66.6% someone in another class could get 150km/h but the record may be 200km/h therefore their percentage is 75%. The person who got 150km/h although the slower plane is the winner as their percentage is higher. The first class is CLASS ONE and the planes use a 2cc engine. They still travel very fast being very aerodynamic.

Class two is next. The engines used in class two are 5cc.

Class three aircraft use 10cc engines.

Class four aircraft have 6.6cc engines.

The next class in combined speed are Pulse Jets. I am very interested in reaction engines and seeing as these are the only ones you can put on control line aircraft i'm very interested in them. These engines really roar. When  they start near you you can feel the shockwave beat against your chest. Then the plane takes off and you stand there in awe. People say that when you first hear the incredible noise you either love it or hate it, i love it. The speed planes with pulse jets go fast and the noise added with speed makes one spectacular flight. The world record for reaction engine is (i find it hard to believe) 400km/h. Go to my pulse jet page.

Proto speed is a speed event which is designed for non-experts to have a go. The engines must be the same as class 2 speed models which is 5cc. They must have a fixed undercarriage. There is no restrictions on fuel tank size.

Midge planes are very small speed planes. They used 1.5cc engines.
