Understanding the Turning Point in Science Sensibly

Newtonian
world and Mechanical Era was based on Gravitational
Force. The
advent of electro magnetism introduced the notion of two more fields into
science: electric and magnetic. A magnetic field was experienced around
a moving electric charge or a current carrying conductor. This notion
necessitated a new approach, which led to Einstein’s relativistic
theory. Let us now see how we can interpret this turning point.
Existence of a second field is given in a school level experiment. [See
fig. 66] It was observed that if the direction of the current
in the conductor is same, the rods attract and if they are opposite they
repel. This was in contrast to electric charge. Hence, the observed
phenomenon was interpreted as a new field.
The quantum thinking we discussed speaks of force as spiral phenomenon that involves constant break down and exchange with the environment or field, This means charges moves in spiral with constant exchange creating a flux in the environment. This flux now could explain the observed result. Fig –66 helps you to conceive the picture.
