What did Conan ever do before his show? An awful lot, actually. Here's a brief timeline compiled mainly from the lengthy bio at NBC.com which can be read here Also I added many dates that I found on conanobrien.net. 1981 - Conan attends Harvard

1983 - Conan is hired as a writer on an HBO show called "Not Necessarily the News", and he is in some skits.

1988 - Conan hired in January by "Saturday Night Live" exec. producer as a writer.

1989 - Conan's“SNL”comedy was awarded with an Emmy for "Outstanding Writing in a Comedy or Variety Series."

1991 - left “SNL. Conan wrote and produced a TV show called "Lookwell" that was never picked up by NBC. That fall Conan became a writer/producer for“The Simpsons,” where he later became the supervising producer.

1999 - Conan does writing for "Saturday Night Live: 25th Anniversary"

1993 - Conan O’Brien was selected from among the many talented potential hosts of“Late Night.”

2001 - is a writer on NBC's "50 Years of NBC Late Night" TV special

and the rest is history....
