'El Shadday

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." -Ps. 91:1-2

Almighty, shadday ((shad-dye)): Shadday is Hebrew for Almighty. Some people spell it with an 'i' - Shaddai.

When we use the words "Almighty God", we need to realize that God is really Almighty God! He is the most powerful Force in the universe. When we pray to God, we are talking to the One who created the universe.

Shadday means "All-powerful"; when it appears as 'El Shadday', it is "God Almighty" This name occurs about 50 times in the OT. It was the name which God was known to the patriarchs, the fathers of the faith ((Gen. 17:1; Ex. 6:3)). 'El Shadday as a name for God indicates that He is all-sufficant, eternally capable of being all that His people need. 1
