Death Guard Terminator Conversions

Once my Chaos Lord was completed, I was in the mood for more conversions. My next step was to give the new Lord a retinue of Death Guard terminators...

So here are the first one. His arms were pinned & glued (2 part epoxy) downward, but away from his side. This is quite different than all of the standard termie arms, and it leaves a big gap at the armpit joint. A hole was drilled in the back, for a sashimono, similar to the one the lord has (no lantern, though). You can see from the scan that I filed off some of the excessive skulls and arrows that were on the figure originally...

Terminator 1

...Next, I made the first few tentacled out of greenstuff built onto wire. The ends were left exposed, so I could drill holes into the armpit, and glue them in place. Then, more tentacles were puttied directly on to the figure, some wrapping around the armour, others winding around the wire reinforced tentacles. The exhaust pipes were made with florist wire and plastic rod, and the sprung spring is coiled wire. Where the sashimono pole is glued into the back, I sculpted some raised trim, like there is on the rest of the model on edges of armour plates & such. This will help hide the joint, and make it look bolted on.

painted terminator 1 soon to come...

Terminator 2

It's hard to see how this guy is posed in the pic, but both arms are raised up, with the chainfist sort of held over his head. I call it the 'Mongo angry!' pose. :)  Once again, this leaves gaps under the arms, at the joints. This time, instead of tentacles, I stuffed it with greenstuff and sculpted on a hose like pattern, similar to the other joints on marine armour.

I left the head off of this guy. I drilled some holes along the perimeter of the head area, and made some smaller tentacles, as with the above figure. Around the rest of the perimeter, I filled in with smaller tentacles, once more some cling to the armour while others wrap around the wire reinforced ones...

OK, slight chance of plans. I finished Terminator 2, but have not painted him. In the center of the tentacles is an orb, which will be painted as a giant, lidless eye. On the shoulders, the spikes were left off (again) and instead I glued all sorts of twisted and coiled wire. I thought that mechanical breakdown would be a good theme (essentially the same thing...) to go with the Nurgle biological decay. More pics when he's painted!

Terminator 3

I have/had big plans for my heavy weapon terminator with autocannon. I've actually got  one painted up entirely and a second started. I was thinking about trying to track down a third one to chop up, but inspiration hit me. Actually, I had also had a plan for a sorcerer, but figured I'd never use one (especially in terminator armour), so I figured I'd use the idea on the heavy instead...

You can see that there is not a whole lot to the figure. He's mostly just the standaard guy, but with the addition of the now familiar sashimono, and with the shoulder spikes once again removed. The entire shoulder and 'top-back' area is covered instead by candles. These were made out of short pieces of dowel with a hole drilled in it. In to the hole was glued a small wire (the wick). On the wire I used a small bit of putty to make a small flame, and yet more putty to make wax dripping down the side of each candle. After this was dry, I used a thin layer of super glue to make sure it all stayed put. I then put down a layer of putty on top of the figure, and sculpted some drips coming down the front and back. While still soft, I embedded all of the candles in place and let it cure for a while. Then, I covered the  areas around the base of the candles with a thin layer of superglue to make sure they stuck. Then some more 'wax drippings' were sculpted on. The candles on the sashimono pole and autocannon are pinned in place.

Terminator 4

The fourth terminator idea is based on an old conversion I've already been using. It was an old original plastic terminator (from the ancient "Terminators and Tyranids" boxed set!) that had the head gouged out and replaced with those of two old RP skeletal dogs.

This time I wanted to do something a little more morbid, so I decided on vulture like heads. Carrion birds for the lord of decay. I sculpted a few heads from scratch, on pieces of wire.

They are almost complete in the photo above. They are fairly small, so I tried to keep them fairly simple... the basic vulture shaped head & beaks, sort of cartoonish scowlign eyebrows, and thin, wrinkly necks. They were snipped with a little wire exposed, and inserted into holes drilled into the head area of a headless terminator...

Here the heads are inserted, positioned, and the first layer of the collar 'feathers' have been sculpted. They don't look like the feathers on alot of other GW figures, because when you look at photos of vultures, they look more like fuzzy collars than large feathers. I'm not even positive they are feathers, it could very well just be long hair. At any rate, that's how I did it.

Here's the carrion boy just about finished and mounted. I didn't use the spikey trophy racks on any of my other figures, but I figured it would be more appropiate to the vulture headed guy. Sort of trying to stick within a certain 'character' for each figure. I wanted to go over teh top with it, though, so I used the huge trophy racks from Abaddon, and also added an extra partial corpse from the zombie set to the sashimono pole. The gun arm was positioned at the slightest angle away from the body (and filled with greenstuff). The power mace arm was cut at the junction between the glove and the arm, then drilled, pinned, rotated (hose still attached) and reglued in place.

The figure is tilted back slightly, in anticipation of a slight building/sloping up of the base. The figure appeared to be hunched too far forward with the feet flat.

Terminator 5

For the fifth terminator, I'm using another with combi-melta and power weapon. The original figure had the mace, as the above figure does. So I hacked it off and replaced it with a blade from a skaven pole weapon. I also cut & rotated the arm, as with the previous figure. I rotated this one the opposite direction, to pose the figure with the weapon overhead, ready to strike.

As I said, I was trying to come up with a different sort of character for each of these. I've already done quite a few tentacles on the lord and this squad, so I was thinking of avoiding them again (though I like them for a recurring theme... sort of Lovecraftian). I also figured I'd go with another helmeted head, since thre was still one I hadn't used but liked. So, aside from the weapon swap, I went with a bunch of 'corruption seals'. Sort of like the Imperial purity seals, only Nurglified. I figured, since they are still marines, and have at least some marine organization, I would use this warped version of imperial regalia to reinforce the image of a corrupted *marine*.

So there's the arms. It's hard to see, but I added extra wires goign from the square bit on the blade, down to a knob on the weapon handle. It's posed to look like it's hanging/sagging like heavy cables. On the other arm, along the gun and on the shoulder, are assorted 'purity' symbols. A could plastic ones from the plastic marines, and some old metal ones from the old lead Adeptus Titanicus titans.

So there he is, assembled and mounted. The arm on the left is off to the side a slight bit, and the head is tilted toward the right (the figure's left hand side). With very little work, he looks much more dynamic, as if he is stepping forward, and looking at whatever target he is about to bring his blade down upon. Of course, there is the usual banner pole, still waiting for a banner...

...more of these figures, and the rest of the squad coming soon!
