Nurgle Cultist Conversions
Since I had recently been
working on conversions for my Chaos Lord and Death Guard terminators, I
decided to do some cultists. The inspiration for using skaven as the basis
came from a discussion at the Bolter and Chainsword chaos forum.
The cultists were made
with the plastic skaven regiment, and various weapons from Necromunda and
40k. Most are armed with pistols, though two have shotguns, and one has
a bit of a home-made flamethrower. Some arm cutting & pinning, and
a modest amount of sculpting went into the figures.
The flame thrower (more
angles shown in pics 3 & 4) was made of several parts. The shooty part
is a flame pistol with the fuel cannister cut off, and three holes drilled
in it, to accept the ends of the 'hoses'. One on the side, one where the
cannister was, and one near the base of the nozzle. The fuel tank on the
back is simply from one of the 40k tank kits. The connector piece, at the
end of the tanks' hoses was hollowed out to accept my wire 'hoses'. My
hoses were made of 20 and 18 gauge florist wire, bent to connect the pieces,
in a sort of haphazard manner. They pass through a hole drilled in the
other hand of the cultist, as if he was trying to keep them out of the
way.
The banners were made
with 18 gauge florist wire, with the base bent to around 90 degrees (+/-).
The base fit into a hole drilled into the base of each torso. This was
then covered with small straps of putty, which connected the shoulder belts/straps
that hold the figures' armour on. Little button holes were pressed in to
make it look like they were attached, and holding on the sashimono style
banners. (Which were meant to keep with the theme I started with the terminators.)
The flag portion was simply paper, cut to size, and folded over, and glued
together with PVA/white glue. The 'loops' were not glued shut, but were
left open to slide the pole into. This was then superglued in place. A
little twist on some of them help make it look like they are flapping in
the wind. A few were torn on the edges to look damaged.
More new pics of the most
recent figures. Did one with a pistol and a shield, another shotgun,
and the first of the
'walking dead' cultists. I used the skaven skull for the head, and a couple
of arms
from the skeleton sprue.
I used some greenstuff to sculpt a few patches of skin and fur over
the skull and arms.
And the last 5 cultists,
bringing the total to 20. Two more with shotguns, another with a pistol
and
hand weapon (spear),
and another 'walking dead' guy with skeletal bits. Lastly, there's the
second converted flame
thrower. Once again, I used the fuel tank on the back with all
sorts of disorganized
hoses circling around the figure (and a tail-blade coming
dangerously close!) For
the nozzle I trimmed down the spear from one of the skaven
arms. i then added a
handle from the bolter on the side, for a second grip. The nozzle tip is
the
end of the blunderbuss
from the Mordheim set, with holes drilled in it. The hoses from the
fuel tank were attached
at various points. The left hand is raised up, pulling a lever that
is attached to the tanks,
as if he is priming to shoot, or opening a valve. I like this one even
better than
the other firethrower.
There is alot of action to the figure, especially when viewed from above.
The squad breaks down
as follows: 13 hand weapon/pistol, 5 shotguns, 2 flame-throwes.
More to come. These are
only the first twenty, and squads are 10-50 figures large. I plan on more
flame throwers, and plenty of shotguns! Plus I will update with painted
pics when they are finished...
