Frequently Asked Questions
(regarding this page and me)
Are you Doug Gilmour?
No, no, and no! I can't stress this enough, no matter how many times I say it, people still send me messages like I play for the Hawks or something. I'm not related to him, and I don't know him. I'm just a fan with time on my hands, and some knowledge of HTML
Then who the heck are you?
I'm a freshman at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, about 20 minutes south of the Canadian border. I'm pursuing a major in Canadian Studies. I'm the sports editor for the school paper, The Hill News, a Big Sister, and an admissions volunteer, in addition to maintaining this web page.
All right, what's your favorite NHL team?
That may seem easy, the offhanded answer I would give to that would be the Hawks, because it is the current home of Doug Gilmour (who I am not related to, by the way). However, I root for the Leafs because I grew attached to them when Gilmour played there, and I root for the Devils, because of the Gilmour factor and the fact that New Jersey is my home when I'm not at school.
Why don't you update this page more often?
I would, and I try to, and over the summer, I actually do. I'm really not that bad about it considering a few Gilmour pages haven't updated in a couple years. The truth of the matter is, I'm working on writing a term paper on the difference between Canadian hockey and US hockey. It should be pretty decent when it's done, if I can coax myself away from the computer long enough to research it.
What is your opinion on fighting in hockey?
I love it, but I think it has to be a mutual fight. I hate this "skate up behind a guy and sucker punch his head" thing that a few guys do. Seriously, if it's not a two-way fight, it's just battery, folks! But, I love watching guys like Tie Domi, Rob Ray, Barnaby, Oliwa, Holik, and even Gilmour in a fight every once in a while.
Who do you root for in the Olympics?
Canada, of course! I have this deep-seeded feeling that Canadian hockey is quintessentially better than US hockey...since the US tends to turn hockey into a business endeavor, and definitely since they trashed their hotel rooms in Nagano. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite players are American...um...like...uh...Jim Campbell...and...well, John LeClair..and all those crazy Americans on the Hawks...but...GO CANADA!!!
What is the meaning of life?
Hockey.
