Each year a group of cave divers get together and travel from Sydney to Mt. Gambier, some 15 hours and 1350 kilometres away. This group of people make up the Limestone Cowboy Tour. In essence it is a tour.

These people dive the limestone caves of the Gambier region. Each day sees several smaller groups venture in different direction and doing their own thing, meeting sometimes for lunch at the Alandale tea rooms, but more often after the day's diving back at the units where we stay. The Allendale Tea Rooms are a popular lunchtime haunt due partially to the fine food but air fills are also obtained from the general store next door.

The caves and sinkholes of the Gambier region are spread out over quite some distance. It is easy to travel over 100 kilometres in a day travelling from one dive site to another and back to the units.

There have been many trips made to the Mt Gambier region by some of the touring party previously, however it wasn't until February 1996 that the first official tour group was organised.

It is in essence a tour with months of planning, travel and accomodation booking, not to mention the numerous hours spent organising and preparing the specialised equipment needed to ensure safe diving.
