Goaltender Alfie Moore played only one game for the Blackhawks, but it was a big one. The Hawks' regular netminder, Mike Karakas, was out with a broken toe as the Hawks were on the eve of game 1 of the 1938 Stanley Cup finals. Toronto wouldn't allow the Hawks to use another team's goalie, but they were kind enough to allow Chicago to borrow Alfie Moore, who happened to be a minor league goaltender for Toronto. The Leafs didn't think the Hawks could win with Moore in net, but when they won that first game by a score of 3-1, Toronto refused to allow the Hawks to use Moore again. But it was too late as the Hawks, with confidence on their side and a healed Karakas in net, took 2 of the remaining 3 games to win the second Stanley Cup in team history. Alfie Moore was rewarded with $300 and an engraved gold watch for his services.
