What is the collaborative project?

As a student of Coventry University doing a Ba (Hons) in Theatre and Professional Practice, I was set a assingment to put together a project with other artists.

What I decided to do.

As a student and a playwright I decided the best thing to do would be to write a play about being a student. I decided to write a monologue, I want to be the person that played the part of the student. I thought by myself playing the part the audience would get more of a idea about being a student if it was a monologue because she would be speaking to herself.

I thought more about what the performance might look like and decided that I wanted it to be very dreamy. I then thought this is where my collaboration can come in. I want to show the way this students sees her life. The best way I thought this would be is to have photo's turned into slides and video to show the rest of her life.

Getting more inspiration

I can not just use my experience as a student to write this play. this is when I hit on the idea of interviewing other students. I asked them various of questions here are some of the answer's to one of the first questions I asked some theatre students. "What do you say to people who think all theatre students do is pretend to be tree's?" "I think everybody's been a tree in their life or a seed blowing in the wind, but that is a sterotypical image of a theatre student and that is false." "I am one and we don't, I don't think of that cos I know we don't do that. If that's what you think fine go out and try it for yourself and you'll realise it's not." "I get that a lot, there is a lot more involved, there is a lot of written work as well as physical work. It's a lot more in depth than people realise."
