Rugby: A Gentlemen's Sport

Rugby is a great example of wonder and awe for me. Before I played the sport, all I thought of rugby is that it's football without pads...and alot more brutal. But my thinking changed drastically once I started playing the game. I fell in love with the game my very first practice. A game of laterals! It was the funnest sport I've ever played. I enjoyed it even more as the season started.

The coaches had been telling the team that when we get out there and play, we need to play hard, but also fair. Our first game was against Priory and it was a hard-fought game start to finish. I won't say that there weren't any dirty plays because there were a few, I can't deny that, but what happened after the game is what sealed the deal for my commitment to rugby. Their coach made a cooler full of hot tea and fudge for us and invited us to have some after the game. That just blew me away because of all the sports I've played before, nobody has ever done that for the team I was playing for. It really showed me that no matter what happens on the field, we all become friends after the final whistle blows. As the saying goes: "Rugby is a hooligan’s sport, played by gentlemen."
